Cape Coral Museum of History With three buildings and two garden areas there is so much to explore! We offer of variety of ways to visit our Museum.

Operated by the Cape Coral Historical Society, the Museum exhibits artifacts, documents and photographs pertaining to the history of Cape Coral and Southwest Florida. Whether you are an individual or a group we can fulfill your needs. Guided tours of our historic displays offer a view into Cape Coral’s history. Tours of the Museum leave once an hour, on the hour, starting at 11am Wednesday through

Friday and at 10am on Saturdays. The last tour begins at 3pm Wednesday through Friday, and at 1pm on Saturday. Visitors are encouraged to call, email, or book online in advance to sign up for a specific tour time.

Welcome back to Saturday Snapshots! 📸

This photo captures another look at the old Harney Point Road, a quiet stretch that feels worlds away from the Cape Coral we know today.

The surrounding area was once known as “Heifer Heights,” a nod to the cattle farming that defined much of the land in those early years. What was once open pasture is now home to major roadways like Nicholas Parkway and even the Cape Coral Police Department.

As development began to take shape, the Gulf American Land Corporation purchased large portions of land from local owners, eventually transforming more than 100 square miles into the foundation of modern Cape Coral. At the time, land was purchased for as little as $165 to $2,000 per acre.

It’s incredible to see how quickly this landscape evolved from rural farmland into a growing city.

We invite YOU to help commemorate America’s history by photographing American Flags flown in Cape Coral, from local car dealerships and businesses, to one flown in your own front yard.

Your photograph will contribute to a photo mosaic representing the American Flag as part of our upcoming exhibit “Salute to America - the 250th Anniversary.”

We are seeking 250 photographs, each symbolizing a year in America's history.

Additionally, please provide a separate photo featuring yourself and any companions who helped capture your image of the flag; this will also be included in the exhibit.

Welcome back to Saturday Snapshots! 📸

This aerial photograph captures Harney Point Road, long before it became the busy Del Prado Boulevard. At the time, the area was largely undeveloped, with wide-open land stretching as far as the eye could see.

In the early days, much of this land was owned by the Matlacha Cattle Company, which held more than 25,000 acres. Cattle farming played a major role in the area, and longtime residents remember a time when it wasn’t unusual to see cows roaming freely across local roads.

It’s a powerful reminder of just how much Cape Coral has transformed in a relatively short time.
