What's old is new again. The aperture has shifted and things in need of repair are tapping me on the shoulder.

In the old LA furniture studio 1999-2002 I did quite a bit of chinoiserie including these little solid oak bun stools. The cotton fabric was worn so thin after 26 years.. but the stool is as solid as the day I first painted it in a black crackle with gold leaf trim.

I love seeing the possibilities around me.

Walking into 2026 Curious and Willing. Happy new year to all!

The palette is soft and atmospheric—muted whites, pale blues, sage greens, sandy beiges, and hints of blush and rust—punctuated by darker, earthy browns and reds. The paint looks applied in thick, expressive strokes and scrapes, giving the surface a tactile, weathered feel.

On the right side, a loosely defined human figure stands upright. The figure is elongated and simplified, rendered in deep rust, brown, and black tones, with minimal detail—more a presence than a portrait. It feels solitary and contemplative.

Across the composition, thin, gestural lines arc and intersect, almost like branches, wires, or mapping lines, creating movement and a sense of structure amid the abstraction. On the left, faint shapes suggest another figure or echo of a figure, partially dissolved into the background layers.

Overall, the painting conveys a quiet, introspective mood—suggesting themes of isolation, memory, or human presence within an abstracted environment. The balance between recognizable figures and abstraction invites the viewer to project their own narrative or emotional response.

Resilience...

Taking stock of this past year. This collage painting was created in Jan/Feb.

Resilience is the ability to recover quickly from illness, change, or misfortune; buoyancy. This figure is traveling through space and time collecting what serves them and letting go of what doesn't.
Resilience grows as hope fuels our heart.

"I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it." - Maya Angelou
