Anyone familiar with this amazing art? These creatures are made from nature - skull, vertebrae, fur, shells, gourds, reeds, and other things. Some painting done on them. The blue eyes are some kind of painted glass marble. Very sturdily made. The larger one is about 20”; the small is 15”. I would love to learn the artist or at least the culture they may come from. Intriguing, bizarre things. Susan

Would anyone know what culture this scroll is from? I don’t believe it’s Japanese. Maybe Islamic? Hard to discern what the image is. It may be a print, almost solarized looking. The textured design area is a kind of fabric/paper mix. It’s quite old looking. There are tiny age splotches on the paper backing. Thank you. Susan

No, you won’t find this delicious spicy Margarita, like Aaron had in Madrid, NM, at the Mine Shaft Cafe the other night. 🤪. But if you go to the Carrizozo Woman’s Club on this coming Wednesday and next Monday from 10:00 to 11:15 you will find an invigorating and FREE YOGA lesson! Sam Love, from New Bern, NC, Carrizozo’s current Artist in Residence, author and poet, with more that 2,000 hours of yoga under his belt, got all thumbs up for his session this morning. Everyone is invited. Please come in comfortable clothes with a mat of some sort to lay on. 908 11th Street.

Then go to Madrid for a Margarita, maybe…? Susan

One of our favorite oil paintings, Susan Farris's 'Arabian Nights' would look wonderful anywhere. Come visit us at the Dancing Dog, support our small business and take home a piece of art. We also have fresh green holiday wreaths from the northwoods of Minnesota available! Open 11-4 in Tularosa's Art District.

Hello! About a year ago I was thrilled to learn that I was one of the contenders for the San Antonio Art League and Museum's 2013 Artist of the Year designation. As this would be a retrospective on my work looking back several years as well as what I am currently producing, it began a journey for me of organizing my portfolio, reflecting on my work, and doing more painting to get ready for an exhibition - a very exciting time.

As it turned out, the honor of SAALM's Artist of the Year 2013 went to Francis Y. Huang, who had a very successful show this last month. Congratulations to him! Happily, the other four contenders - myself, Edith Collins, Billy Keen and Steven Smith - were offered a group show of about 15 pieces of each of our work.

I'm so happy to announce that this weekend, Sunday, Nov. 3, 3:00-5:00, will be the opening reception at the museum in the King William District (130 King William Street, SA 78204 - across from the little park with a gazebo). For those who haven't been, it's a lovely little art museum, one of the oldest art institutions in San Antonio, located in a former carriage house in the beautiful King William neighborhood. They always do a wonderful wine reception with gourmet refreshments. Admission is free and parking is plentiful.

I hope you can come enjoy the extremely varied work of these four artists. Thanks! Susan
