Join us in making a difference by donating gently used winter wear, including coats, jackets, sweaters, hats, gloves, and scarves. Every donation helps provide warmth and comfort to someone in our community.

Discover the art of fiber crafts at Sheep to Shawl at the Bartow History Museum next Saturday, October 24, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.!

As part of the Booth Western Art Museum’s West Fest 2026, this special program features members of the Etowah Valley Hand Spinning Guild and the Peachtree Spinners Guild. Watch hands-on wool-spinning demonstrations, learn about traditional wool-dyeing techniques, and explore the history and craftsmanship behind fiber arts!

Have you ever wondered what the everyday lives of people at the Spring Place Moravian Mission looked like?

Next week, we’re taking a closer look at the stories hidden within the historical records of this early 19th-century Cherokee community during Lunch & Learn: Gossip within the Spring Place Moravian Mission to the Cherokee Country.

Join us October 21 from noon to 1 p.m. as Irina Garner of the Chief Vann House State Historic Site explores the relationships, personalities and behind-the-scenes stories preserved in the Records of the Moravians Among the Cherokee.

These firsthand accounts provide more than a window into Indian Removal and the Cherokee Trail of Tears. They also reveal the people who lived and worked at Spring Place - including Moravian missionaries, Cherokee community members, enslaved Africans and Black community members, and James Vann.

Bring the whole family to enjoy photos with Santa, festive treats, classic Christmas stories, holiday cartoons, and hands-on crafts with the Bartow History Museum elves. It’s the perfect opportunity to make memories, capture a special holiday photo, and kick off the Christmas season!

🌊WHAT LIES BENEATH NORTH GEORGIA’S LAKES?🌊

Join us for an Evening Lecture: Underwater Ghost Towns of North Georgia on October 29 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Bartow History Museum.

Author and Georgia historian Lisa M. Russell will uncover the fascinating stories of communities that disappeared beneath North Georgia’s man-made lakes. As rivers were dammed for power and water, reservoirs transformed the landscape and submerged towns, homes, roads, racetracks, cemeteries and other places where people once lived and gathered.

Russell will share stories of the people who experienced these dramatic changes firsthand, including:

🏠More than 700 families displaced by the creation of Lake Lanier
⚰️Schoolboys recruited to help relocate a cemetery during construction of Lake Chatuge
🔫78-year-old Eliza Brock, who confronted contractors clearing her property for Lake Hartwell with a sh***un

During severe droughts, falling water levels can sometimes reveal remnants of these lost communities, offering a rare glimpse at places that now rest beneath North Georgia’s lakes.

What can historical records reveal about the people who lived, worked and worshiped at the Spring Place Moravian Mission?

Find out at Lunch & Learn: Gossip within the Spring Place Moravian Mission to the Cherokee Country on October 21 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Bartow History Museum.

The Records of the Moravians Among the Cherokee are often used to understand major events such as the Indian Removal Act and the Cherokee Trail of Tears. But these firsthand accounts also preserve something more personal: glimpses into the relationships, personalities, conflicts and everyday lives of the people who called Spring Place home.

This presentation will explore stories involving Moravian missionaries, their Cherokee congregation, enslaved Africans and Black community members, as well as James Vann, the mission’s prominent sponsor. Together, these lesser-known accounts offer a fascinating look at the people behind the history of the Spring Place Moravian Mission.
