The Henry Knox Trail is marked with 56 markers placed across two states more than three-quarters of a century ago. It is one of the earliest heritage trails created in the United States. The installation of the plaques began 1926, the 150th anniversary of Knox's march. The markers mark the journey that Henry Knox led to bring artillery and heavy cannons from Fort Ticonderoga in New York to Cambridge, Massachusetts. The wintery trek began in December 1775 and ended in a March 1776, a few months before the official declaring of independence from British tyranny occurred. The tons of artillery, and cannons dragged hundreds of miles through snowy woods & icy rivers, resulted in the evacuation of the British from Boston. Pictured is a marker in Albany, NY.
