We will be having our Annual Meeting of the membership on Saturday, November 5, at 11 am on the covered patio at the Cathlamet Marina. We hope to see you there. --From Linda Wright, WCHS Board President. (Refreshments will be provided)

From the pen of WCHS Board President Linda Wright: A new project we are trying to accomplish is converting the county historical newspaper collection that is currently on microfilm and microfiche to digital images. This would make viewing newspaper articles easier for people to access for information. Unfortunately, the conversion cost is $40 per roll, and since there are 34 rolls, this would mean over $1300 to complete the project. We are asking for your support by making a donation or by including your donation when you renew your membership.

Farming Catalog - 1920 John Deere Waterloo Boy Kerosene Burning Tractor Series A-78-Waterloo-1920. Irene Martin wrote a note to WCHS volunteer curator Mildred Jones 8/8/1986 that she had received different John Deere Catalogs from Gene Torget and if we could not use them to return to Irene. They were not logged into the collection but found 2 files full recently. This one was an unusual one. From: Gene Torget #123-8623 Make prior arrangements with curator to view the full catalog.

Puget Island Seventh-day Adventist Church, undated. Can we get some help on identifying who is in the photo. We don't appear to have more than an older photocopy of the original so if anyone can secure an original we'd love to scan it into the computer. Thank you for the help.

With the help of the Columbia Maritime Museum in Astoria doing research on the steam sternwheeler Hassalo. On-line resources were providing conflicting information saying she was taken off the Columbia River by 1899, which according to the Maritime Museum was incorrect. This particular photo we don't know who donated it but it is closer to the photographer than others we have seen including the one donated by Harold & Blanche (Heron) Bradley. River traffic gave resident the ability to go to Portland and Astoria aboard a stern-wheeler for around $1.25 one way before there were paved roads. These ships also hauled freight.
