We got a couple new books in at the Wildlife Museum… and let’s just say, these aren’t your grandma’s casserole cookbooks.

The Modern Huntsman Cookbook is part recipes, part storytelling - wild game, campfire cooking, and a reminder that food actually comes from somewhere besides a drive-thru.

The MeatEater Fish and Game Cookbook by Steven Rinella is your no-nonsense guide : 100+ recipes plus how to prep, butcher, and cook wild game so it actually tastes good.

One makes you think about the hunt.
The other makes sure you don’t ruin dinner after it.

Stop in, check them out… and maybe leave with a new appreciation for what’s on your plate.

Sneaky Pete is officially on his glow-up tour, and yesterday’s stop?
E-Z Tan Tanning Salon

Now here’s the thing, E-Z Tan has been around since the 80s, which Pete respects deeply because that’s the last decade he remembers.

They’ve got all kinds of options - spray tans, red light therapy, sauna pods… a whole menu of modern-day wizardry.

Trying to explain a tanning bed to a coyote is… an experience.
He thought it was:

1. A spaceship
2. A medical device
3. “One of them rich people coffins”

But 10 minutes later…

He stepped out lookin’ like he just got back from spring break in Florida.
Chest out. Chin up. Acting like he invented Vitamin D.

He’s already talking about going back for “that red light thing” because he heard it “tightens things up,” and we are not unpacking what he thinks that means.

Between the kisses he’s been getting and now this tan… Pete is out here living a life he did not have in 1992.

At this point, we’re just along for the ride.

So… where’s Sneaky Pete headed next?

New merch just landed at the Mammoth Cave Wildlife Museum and it’s a step in the direction we’ve been working toward.

We’ll be honest… this place has been frozen in time for a while. And while there’s something special about that old roadside charm, we also know it needs some love. The kind you can feel the second you walk in.

So instead of shutting down and flipping everything overnight, we’re doing it the way this place deserves…little by little.

We started with the shop.

We’ve brought in new items for the people who already love this area:
National park explorers. Hikers. Campers. Bikers. Rock hounds. The “pull over, let’s see what this is” kind of travelers.

It’s still got that slightly offbeat, roadside feel (don’t worry, we’re not sanding all the edges off), but now there’s more to discover. Things you’ll actually want to take home. Things that feel like they belong to this place.

And here’s the thing -
You don’t even have to tour the museum to stop in and shop.

Swing by. Poke around. See what’s new.
We’re building something worth coming back to… one piece at a time.

Sneaky Pete left the building.

For the first time since 1992, we loaded him up and took him out into the world for the Explore Kentucky's Caveland Exploration Celebration… and let’s just say - Pete was not prepared for what 2026 looks like.

First off, everyone’s carrying tiny glowing rectangles and pointing them at their food. Pete thought they were all trying to start a fire.

He spent the day learning about local caves, wandered through distillery booths like he was on a very important mission, smelled real flowers (not the fake ones that were in his exhibit for years), looked to see if he made it into the “Crappy Taxadermy” book, and even road a bike around since his legs were tired from walking.

Somewhere along the way, he got lots of kisses from pretty ladies and even a hug from the mayor, so now his expectations are completely unrealistic for future outings.

At one point a kid tried to climb on him like he was a ride at the fair. Pete took that personally.

By the end of it, he looked at us like:
“I’ve been sitting in that museum since 1992 for what?! Y’all have been having THIS much fun without me?!”

Safe to say… Pete had a big old time.

Now he’s back at the Mammoth Cave Wildlife Museum, but he’s already asking about his next trip.

So tell us…where should Sneaky Pete go next?

And shoutout to the folks who made it all happen:
Munfordville Tourism
Edmonson County Tourism
Hart County Tourism
Cave City Tourism
Barren County Glasgow Tourism

Because apparently… even Sneaky Pete deserves a field trip.

We’re packing up the wild side and bringing it to the Caveland Exploration Celebration tomorrow… and yeah, it might get a little strange.

Come meet Pete the Coyote - he’s been hanging around the Mammoth Cave Wildlife Museum since 1969 and he’s still got stories to tell (whether you want to hear them or not).

We’ll be set up from 11 AM – 7 PM at the Cave Area Conference Center with giveaways, oddities, and a little taste of the kind of roadside weird that’s kept people pulling off the highway for decades.

If you work in tourism, this isn’t optional…it’s necessary.
You can’t recommend what you don’t understand.

Every business in this area should have their frontline staff here. Gas stations, hotels, restaurants
- this is how you actually learn what’s in your backyard.

Come see the wild side of Cave City.

We heard you loud and clear…
“Do you have stickers?”

For the longest time, we didn’t.
Now we do.

And not just any stickers, these feel like something you’d find tucked inside an old glovebox after a cross-country road trip. The kind you stick on a cooler, a gas pump, or the back window of a car that’s seen a few stories.

Inspired by roadside Americana, national park nostalgia, and the rare and exotic animals that have made this place unforgettable since the late ‘60s - these are little pieces of the experience you can actually take with you.

A way to remember the bison, the tiger, the unexpected, the slightly strange… the only-in-Cave-City kind of moments.

They’re here now.

For more than 50 years, the Mammoth Cave Wildlife Museum has stood right here - watching the road change, the town grow, and generations of travelers pass by and pull over.

Since 1969, this place has been part of the journey. Not just a stop, but a memory.

Inside, you’ll find a collection of wildlife from around the world, carefully preserved, studied, and displayed in a way that lets you slow down and really see them. Lions. Bears. Creatures most people only ever read about.

Some will say they’re “just animals on display.”
But for a lot of folks - locals and travelers alike - this is the closest they’ll ever come to seeing these animals up close. And for decades, that’s been enough to spark curiosity, conversation, and a sense of wonder that sticks with you long after you leave.

It’s a place rooted in a different time, when the road trip mattered, and places like this were part of the story.

And now, we’re getting ready to write the next chapter.

Big changes are coming, follow along.

There’s something special about places that have stood the test of time.

The Mammoth Cave Wildlife Museum has been part of this stretch of road for decades - welcoming travelers, families, and curious minds passing through, just like so many of the roadside stops that made U.S. 31W what it is.

Before the interstates, this was the journey. And places like this weren’t just attractions, they were part of the story.

As Cave City Cars and Coffee kicks off another season celebrating the open road, we’re reminded that the history isn’t just behind us… it’s still here. Still standing. Still worth stopping for.
