V Dub

There was magic
in the sound
of the thing.
Nothing else like it
I’ve ever heard.
A sound of adventure,
never subtle at all.

Took us everywhere
we needed to be and
more places we didn’t.
Always the fun.

Didn’t have comfort,
the radio played.
It wasn’t the ride,
even destination.
About being able to
leave here behind,
checking out other.

Had no reverse,
the one we rode.
Pushed it out of
strange places.

Places were always
calling our names.
Any old car could
have taken us there.
Fast cars, flash cars,
pieces of junk.
Rode all them too.

But the sound from
that green Micro Bus,
a music of wonder, to
my ears every time.

Enough to See

I take my friend
down to the sea
and she takes me.
We come down
from the highlands
and the world opens
for us to see.

The birds wheel
and call to us.
We’ve been before.
A good day I think.
To be known to
them, familiar.
We wave, call back.

Trailing

I wonder
if they knew what
I’d be thinking.
Skipping up the
steps they’d laid.
Or, did I even
cross their minds.
Moving dirt to
fit these steps.

Or was it just
a job to them.
Climbing, hauling,
cutting paths through
this mountain forest.
Building ways for us
to see wild nature.

I’d like to think
they feel our joy.
Know what grace
they’ve shown us.
How many lives
have shared awe
At their hands.

What they’ve given
all of us, the ones
now coming after.

Greeting Vast

There’s so much
almost, in the air.
It’s a time of day
the dog and I
think the same.
I sense him
he senses me.

There are other
times and places
in our travels,
think each others
thoughts, but
in the morning
the sea is large.

Those Minutes

But moments ago
black with stars.
A sky disappeared
behind a misty morn.
In the quiet of eyes
first opened to be
soon replaced
by morning songs.
All to wonder in
quiet seconds
is it still like
yesterday.

Come Again

It’s in the air,
though dreams
hold it at bay.
The great mystery
of between,
the promise,
creeps slowly
with the morn.
It’s early yet.
Suggestions left
for day dreams
to go on.

Until

The night
draws closer.
Vision fades.
No safety
in the hiding.
Small comfort.
Alone in the
darkness.
Better perhaps
than none.

Streaming By

Standing on
an open plain.
Felt crowded for
the longest time.
Lines ahead of me,
some running
more mincing steps.

Around me
conversations.
Questions, answers
fly about and
faces grow familiar.
Ebb and flow of
all uncertainties.

I think seems
freely given in
murmurs even shouts.
People that you
come to know,
expect to see. Even
love their voices.

Behind the
unknowns grow
into the distance.
There seems a
coming horde,
as used to
fades away.

Words of comfort
frustrate as
lips that built,
more every day
to fade. Yet
lessons learned
the same.

That Room

Take my hand,
let’s walk
into a dream.

That day of life
comes back.
As we walk
the pier of time,
every wave
remembered.

What you asked
and my replies.
So long ago.
The sounds of
seabirds flying,
other ghosts.

You seemed
a pillar, certain
in my hand.
A time of us,
to live,
to share.

To come
back to.

Dark Visitors

As the evening
settles on the land,
there is a time
the dark moths
come to feed
and play.

They prefer
a flight in
afterglow.
No stray beam
highlights
their show.

Among the Lilies
and the Trumpets,
quiet as a whisper.
Should one
touch your cheek,
a bliss.
