Queen Anne’s County Launches QAC 250 Committee to Celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary

Queen Anne’s County is proud to join communities across the nation celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary. In coordination with the Maryland 250 Commission, the County has established the QAC 250 Committee to help plan, promote, and coordinate local events and activities commemorating this historic milestone.

The mission of the QAC 250 Committee is to bring together community partners to collaboratively plan events that honor the nation’s founding while highlighting the unique history and heritage of Queen Anne’s County. The group will also work to centralize communications and maximize community participation in anniversary events.

The QAC 250 Commission includes representatives from a wide range of local organizations and partners, including:

• Queen Anne’s County Government
• Centreville MD250 Committee
• CChesapeake Manor Vineyard• CCult Classic Brewing Company• Economic Development Commission
• HHistoric Stevensville• KKennard African American Cultural Heritage Center• KKent Island Heritage Society• KKent Narrows Waterfront

The initiative is led by the Queen Anne’s County Department of Economic and Tourism Development, under the coordination of Heritage Tourism Coordinator Penny Young-Carrasquillo.

“America’s 250th Anniversary is a meaningful opportunity to reflect on our nation’s founding and the role communities like Queen Anne’s County played in shaping that history,” said Commission President Jim Moran. “From our historic sites to the stories of those who lived and worked here, this celebration allows us to honor our past while bringing our community together for the future.”

A variety of events are already being planned to celebrate the anniversary and engage residents and visitors. Activities throughout the year will highlight the County’s history and traditions, with opportunities for the community to come together in celebration. From exhibits and historical programs to signature community events and commemorations, there will be something for all ages to enjoy, with additional events continuing to be announced as planning progresses.

Residents are encouraged to follow and on social media for updates and event announcements. Additional information, including a full calendar of events, can be found at: https://visitqueenannes.com/md250/ and

As this exhibit comes to a close, we would like to extend a special thank you to the Kennard African American Cultural Heritage Center.

This was a truly wonderful exhibit—welcomed, experienced, and appreciated by many, many visitors during its time at Wright’s Chance. The exhibit was created and led by Kennard, and we were proud to provide the setting for it to be shared with our community.

Thank you for bringing these important stories to life and for creating an experience that resonated with so many.

We look forward to future opportunities…to work together

📜Queen Anne’s County History Question of the Day

Have you ever wondered…

👉 When are the historic sites in Queen Anne’s County actually open to the public—and can you name them?

Many of our county’s historic treasures aren’t open every day like a traditional museum…

👀 So here’s the challenge:

👉 What days (or times of year) can you visit them?
👉 And how many sites can you name?

Drop your answers below ⬇️

💡 Hint: Many of them open together—and not as often as you might think…

History lives on—not just in the places themselves, but in knowing when (and how) to experience them.

🌿 Thank You for a Productive (and Fun!) Clean-Up Day

A big thank you to the seven volunteers who came out to lend a hand at the Tucker House this weekend!

Together, we focused our efforts entirely on Tucker House—and what a difference you made.

✔️ Cleaned and organized the smokehouse
🌸 Refreshed the front garden
📦 Moved the final hints of Christmas back to the attic
🧹 Cleared and reorganized spaces to prepare for a **NEW public offering** and our upcoming exhibit

But the best part?

We took time to pause, talk, and visit—with each other and about history. Those moments are just as important as the work itself.

It may have been a small group, but the impact—and the camaraderie—was big.

💙 Thank you for showing up, pitching in, and being part of what makes this community so special.

Stay tuned… there’s more to come!
