This photo was sent to the museum a while ago by Ramona Wulff. Two little girls stand in front of the Charles City Creamery. This is the creamery building in the 700 block of North Main St, built in 1911. It's hard to say exactly when the photo was taken.

🥛🍨The Charles City Creamery--under various owners and at various locations--offered several different services over the years. Until 1951 the creamery bottled and delivered milk around town. Often the creamery had a shop area where patrons could get ice cream or other treats. In 1911 the creamery of Emil Weiss had a large ice cream machine which reportedly cost about $450 (approximately $14,000 today) and could produce 40 gallons of ice cream per hour.

Zoetis in Charles City has its roots in the museum building which was once the Dr. Salsbury's Laboratory and Office Building. Our building is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Today is the 58th anniversary of the Charles City tornado that changed the town forever. At the Community Center today, many folks gathered to share their stories of that unforgettable day. Some stories had tragedy, some had humor, and all had an impact. The theme of the conversation was that it was a day full of things that one would "never forget." Charles City will never forget the impact of the EF5 tornado that swept through downtown on May 15th, 1968.
