Flashback Friday: "There are 34 galleries on the Peninsula," says Cookie Washington, the exhibition's curator. "Not one of them is African-American owned, or a 50-percent supported African-American gallery. This city deserves an African-American art gallery."

Last month art galleries and other venues around Charleston presented exhibitions honoring the Emanuel Nine. One show, The Holy City: Art of Love, Unity, and Resurrection, is still going strong. Dear Charleston,
Team Holy City and I have been honored to share our love and our art with you. We have hosted visitors from around the globe. We have made new friends, learned valuable lessons and hope we have shared some as well.

We closed our doors July 17th, on The Holy City: Art of Love, Unity and Resurrection, this is not the end, only the end of this chapter of the Passage Artists Collective journey. We continue to seek a permanent home for African-American art and artisans on the Charleston peninsula.

We will be back with an even bigger, grander exhibit in January 2017 showcasing even more talented African American artists.

It is long over due that there is a permanent place where the community, our tourists and most importantly our children, can see the works of our black hands in a place of honor.
Look around this "Holy City" how many buildings and gates and 100 plus year old baskets and other beautifully crafted things that make this town great we're made by my ancestors?

We want a place to show that the African American artisans and craftsmen are still here and producing museum quality art and the world needs to see it!
