inting - coming soon!! At Jim's death, he wished for his original paintings to be used to benefit a variety of groups. Check our website often for updates on Jim's originals! At Jim Booth Art Gallery we are focused on giving back while both protecting and growing the value of Jim's art for all of our loyal customers. “Storm Warnings” depicts Hurricane David coming onshore at the Charleston, SC battery in 1979. This is the painting that really put Jim Booth on the map! Jim released this image the year before Hurricane Hugo hit Charleston in 1989. After Hurricane Hugo everyone thought this image was a painting of Hugo and it then sold out quickly. This gave Jim the idea to paint The Storm, depicting Hurricane Hugo coming on shore at night. All of Jim’s published paintings of Charleston’s battery homes can be seen under The Battery Tag at the link below. Available in our Classic Edition:

“Storm Surge 1911” - Jim beautifully captures Charleston’s Hurricane of 1911 as the rough waters of the harbor take a tall ship. Ironically Jim painted this image early in 2017 before that Summer’s big storm surge event from Hurricane Irma!! This is similar to when he painted “Storm Warnings” back in 1988 followed by Hurricane Hugo the following year – his inspiration for the night painting: “The Storm”, 1989.

Check out the links on our website to find a few of the historical photos Jim used while creating his painting. There is also a link to a great read from the Preservation Society of Charleston describing the Hurricane of 1911.

This was Jim’s last painting / print release prior to his retirement and the closing of his retail gallery and frame shop in 2018. Limited Edition Prints available from our website linked below or shop in person from our vendor booth inside Patina Market
