Check out these two works by Jane Hunt, and hear how the light and landscape of India shaped her paintings:

“India offers an extraordinary variety of subjects to paint. For the exhibition ‘Dust and the Divine’, I chose to use the setting sun as the thread connecting my paintings. Whether depicting a quiet landscape or a Rabari shepherd with his goats, I was captivated by the way the evening light filters through the dust, creating an atmosphere that feels both luminous and deeply evocative.
For me, the dust speaks to our earthly experience, while the light suggest the divine. It is in those fleeting moments at sunset that the two seem to meet.”

A stunning collection of watercolours by Arteva Club master artist Harsh Agrawal for our group show ‘Dust and the divine’ opening tomorrow at Principle Gallery Charleston

‘I grew up in India, but after years of living in various countries, I started seeing my hometown differently. Things I used to walk past without noticing like an old doorway, a wall lit up at a certain hour, the way people move through a market in the mornings, suddenly felt worth stopping for. That is mostly what this trip was about for me: slowing down enough to actually look at a place I thought I already knew.’

“Dust and the Divine” brings together works shaped by Arteva Club’s journey through India, where shared experiences became distinctly personal paintings!

The exhibition opens on September 4th in the gallery with an opening reception from 5-8pm and a live painting demonstration the following morning beginning at 10:30am
