The Fralin exhibits American and European painting, works on paper, and sculpture of the 15th-20th centuries; art from the ancient Mediterranean; Asian art; Native American art. Highlights of the collection of modern paintings, sculpture and works on paper include Ameri

can figurative art and photography. Each year the Museum presents a selection of exhibitions drawn from the collections and sources nationwide. A new print gallery now allows for the comprehensive study of the Museum's major holdings in prints, drawings, and photography; the new object study gallery will provide space for research into ethnographic holdings— African, Native American, Oceanic, and pre-Columbian art—as well as artifacts from the ancient Mediterranean world.

“This opportunity for connection, to remember in high definition, to feel, is the power of photography and is what I enjoyed so much of Nakeya’s work.” -Kori Price

We are in the final weeks of our current exhibitions. As we reflect on the last few months, we invited Charlottesville photographer and multi-disciplinary artist, Kori Price to share with us how Nakeya Brown’s exhibition, Refutations, resonated with her. Thank you, Kori for spending time in this exhibition and for sharing these personal connections. We hope this inspires you to come in for one last look before we close, May 31.

Kori Price slowly walks through the exhibition, reading the text, looking closely at the photographs, and occasionally gesturing.

Today we’re highlighting this year’s exhibition, curated by our 2025-26 University Museums Internship (UMI) class.
This year’s cohort were tasked with curating around a recent gift of Old Master etchings, bequested to The Fralin by Dr. Janet Greenwood. The class took these six works, researched prints from The Fralin’s collection, developed a theme, and selected additional works to round out the exhibition. “Printed Stories: Tales in Black & White” breaks it down into three themes, illustrating that stories come from everywhere. From those we see in our everyday lives to those we read and write ourselves, storytelling is how we make sense of the world. Stories carry pieces of the people who tell them and take on lives of their own as they are told throughout time.
