3D Greek Vases

3D Greek Vases At the University of Virginia, a small group of Archaeology faculty, staff and students are working to 3D scan and print Ancient Greek vases

At the University of Virginia, a small group of Archaeology faculty, staff and students are working to 3D scan and print Ancient Greek vases from the Fralin Museum. Professor Tyler Jo Smith and Engineering Student Greg Lewis started this project in 2014. Through various grants and funding, in 2015 four undergraduate students were brought on to assist and learn 3D scanning and printing techniques.

Through continued collaboration with the Engineering School at UVA, the Fralin Museum, the Meade Endowment, College Council, and the UVA Archaeology Department, this project will continue to bridge the gap between technology and archaeology. The goal of the group is to create replicas of Greek vases that students can handle and interact with.
