Flags..... Have you ever thought about how many Flags flew over our area? THINK ABOUT:
1) Fort Estevan 1795
2) What was 1st American Flag to fly at St Stephens? (It flys today at the boat ramp)
3) What Flag flew in July after Alabama became a state? (How many stars?)
4) How many stars were on the flag when the Courthouse was moved to Chatom in 1907?
5) How many years did the 48 star Flag fly?

We are privileged to be a part of cleaning up a 48 Star Flag found in the Jordan Mercantile Store by it's new owner Tracy Dees. We are grateful for Tracy's care and detail as she has renovated this historical building. We do not know exactly when this Flag was flown in Chatom, but anytime between 1912 and 1959. Tracy will be displaying this treasure back in it's "home".

STAY TUNED FOR THE MUSEUM'S ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT THE 250 ANNIVERSARY DISPLAY, IN COOPERATION WITH THE SMITHSONIAN. IT WILL CONTAIN WASHINGTON COUNTY'S HISTORY FROM FT. ESTEVAN TO BASF ANNOUNCEMENT OF DOWNSIZING. (Display at St Stephens Courthouse June 27 thru July... more details to come)
