A little funky, a little unexpected, and completely one-of-a-kind. 🤎
Just up the road from us is the wonderfully eclectic pottery studio of ceramic artist Andrew Berends. And visiting Andrew is always an experience!
Andrew has been working with clay since 1976, creating incredible Raku pottery that blurs the line between art and craft.
What makes Raku so special? It’s all about fire, smoke, and a little bit of unpredictability. Each piece is pulled from the kiln while glowing hot and placed into combustible materials, creating those beautiful crackled surfaces, smoky blacks, and rich, unexpected colors.
No two pieces ever turn out quite the same. And that’s exactly what we love about them.
We spent some time catching up with Andrew, wandering through his wonderfully funky studio, and, of course, picking out a few new pieces to bring back to the gallery.

There are some landscapes worth traveling for. 🍂
Artist Sang Ho Han drove all the way up from New Jersey to paint this iconic Vermont scene—the historic Weston Mill in Weston, Vermont.
With the mill, rushing water, and brilliant fall foliage, it’s one of those classic New England views that feels almost made for a painting. And Sang captured the light, color, and feeling of autumn in Vermont so beautifully.
We love knowing the story behind a piece—where it was painted, what drew the artist there, and the journey that brought it to DaVallia.
Original art. An iconic Vermont landscape. And a little piece of fall that lasts all year.

A rainy day studio visit with artist Marilyn Wendling. 🍂

One of our favorite parts of what we do is getting out of the gallery and visiting the artists we represent in their own spaces.
We took a drive through the rain and peak fall color to spend a little time with Marilyn in her beautiful studio. There’s always something special about seeing where the work is created—the brushes, the paint, works in progress, and of course, catching up with the artist behind it all.
And we didn’t come home empty-handed. 🤍
A new original painting, fresh from Marilyn’s studio, made the trip back to DaVallia with us.
Rainy roads. Vermont foliage. An artist’s studio. A new painting tucked in the car for the ride home.
We love days like this.

Daily Happenings at DaVallia 🍂
Fall is here, and the gallery is feeling especially good right now.
This time of year brings so much energy to DaVallia. We’re constantly changing things up, welcoming new work, working on design projects, photographing pieces, and finding new ways to bring art and beautiful things together.
We love that DaVallia is never quite the same place twice. There’s always something new to see—and usually something happening behind the scenes.

Before we ever called it Artful Living, we were simply living it.
Years ago, Country Home came to our Vermont farmhouse to photograph the way Michael and I lived with art. They called the story “An Artful Approach.”
Michael is the minimalist. I’m the one who loves layers. Somehow, somewhere in between, we found a way of making a home that felt like both of us.
Looking back at these photographs now feels a little surreal. So much of what they captured became the foundation of DaVallia—the art, the collected pieces, Michael’s furniture, my love of objects with a story, and our belief that a home should feel personal rather than perfect.
We’re still doing it. But wow, has a lot changed.
We’ve grown. DaVallia has grown. And for nearly ten years, we’ve been slowly renovating this old Vermont farmhouse—room by room, project by project, always with our hands in it and usually with another idea waiting around the corner.
The house you see in these pages was only one chapter.
We’re finally getting close to the next one, and we cannot wait to show you what this old house has become.
Country Home recently chose to publish our story again in a special edition, all these years later—which feels pretty special.
But we have to say... we think we’re ready for a new spread. 😉
Stay tuned. We can’t wait to show you the final result.

How far would you drive for a whale? 🐋
Today, the answer was all the way from Pittsburgh to Vermont.
She found our whale wall on Instagram, fell in love, and decided she needed to see them in person. So she made the trip to DaVallia—and left with a very special whale of her own.
But the best part? Somewhere between talking whales, art, homes and life, we made a new friend. By the time she left, we were hugging goodbye. 🤍
This is why we love what we do.
Yes, we get to live with beautiful art and work with incredibly talented artists—but it’s the people these pieces bring through our doors, the stories we hear, and the connections we make along the way that make DaVallia what it is.
And now one very special whale is headed home to Pittsburgh.
Some pieces just find their people.
