It’s a beautiful day to visit Longyear Museum!

Longyear is a historical museum dedicated to advancing the understanding of the life and work of Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer, Founder, and Leader of Christian Science. We’re open Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 A.M.–4 P.M. and Sunday from 1 – 4 P.M. Admission is always free.

If you visit Longyear Museum in Chestnut Hill, Mass., you may notice a recurring cross and crown motif. What is it? The cross and crown seal—emblematic of Christian Science—is featured on the cover of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.

The cross and crown window you see here is from the Original Edifice of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston. In 1908, Mrs. Eddy requested that the emblem be redesigned. As a result, the window was replaced and is now on view at Longyear Museum. We also sell several cross and crown items in our shop!

In June of 1882, Mary Baker Eddy moved to Pleasant View, a farm on the outskirts of Concord, N.H., and a home she occupied longer than any other throughout her life. Of her retreat from the city to the countryside, Mrs. Eddy said, “I left Boston in the height of prosperity to retreat from the world, and to seek the one divine Person, whereby and wherein to show others the footsteps from sense to Soul.”

Welcome, June! Mary Baker Eddy took much joy in this summer month. In her June 1898 message to The Mother Church, she reflected on this time of year, “… the frown and smile of April, the laugh of May, have fled; and the roseate blush of joyous June is here and ours.”
