Do you believe in aliens?

Showin up and showin out for foster youth awareness month as I learn to open up more about my own story. Gratitude for and for the support, frienship, and holding space for those like myself to share our experiences. We are taking a no compromise approach and have found a way to turn our experiences into empowerment. Trauma and tragedy is not something I've been willing to let others profit from who do not care to invest the time to understand my lived experiences. Through visual art and storytelling I've committed myself to peeling back all the layers of my experience to help inspire and give voice to others who suffer in silence. That has meant making tremendous sacrifices and losing everything to remain true and authentic to the experiences I've lived through so I can most accurately show that in my art.

As a foster youth it felt like life just happened to me and things were outside of my control. It was the process of making art in my 30's that taught me how to face buried pain and learn to talk about it with others. Art is the medicine that saved my life and now I am considered a medicine man since I first had to heal myself. I am now on a mission to share what I've learned with others so they might benefit from the things Spirit taught me. Life isn't an easy journey and people must know they are not alone or forgotten. These are critical times and we need to build together through ongoing conversations lead by those with personal experiences. We must be wise and seek out our commonalities instead of differences in order to build the necessary bridges so we can collectively heal. As a Conscious Artist I feel it is our responsibility to bear it all and engage the public in the process of meaning making. A year ago I experienced a tough event that changed my life forever, forcing me to leave Chicago as an emerging, but still struggling artist. My family and I have been facing the hardships of being homeless while learning to navigate new challenges with faith, resilience, humility, and determination. An otherwise impossible seeming journey if not for the power of art, and the compassionate support we've received along the way!

While fighting everyday to maintain a commitment to conscious living and our involvement in the community, we saw the need to put together the 'House of Art and Bread' project. A place where mindfulness, visionary art, conscious living, and social change converge to make an immediate impact in our community!

The project is designed to turn proceeds from our art program into nutritious vegan and vegetarian meals, community based initiatives, and other needed resources for the unhoused. Sometimes the best expression of gratitude is to simply pay it forward!
