We’re excited to unveil artwork for the newly opened Polaris Lounge at O’Hare. For this project, we put ourselves in the shoes of travelers, embracing the iconic story of Chicago through imagery of the city’s largest natural resource, nodding to its distinct architecture and histories, as well as celebrating abstraction.

Excited we collaborated Rick Malt who produced two large-scale murals at ōLiv Madison, a new residential space in downtown Madison in partnership with . Malt’s work is prominently featured at the entrance of the roof top deck, as well as alongside the cabana section, bringing colorful, dynamic energy to the entire space.

Kicking off this week sharing more details about our work with Porter, a new residential space in Oak Park, in partnership with Focus. At Porter, we crafted a curatorial collection of Chicago based artworks diverse with a range of mediums, styles, volume and scale. In the kitchen area, Angela Finney’s vibrant works on paper saturate the space with color and crisp modern compositions. Moving into the communal residential lounge area, Gabrielle Stone’s painting is rich with texture, layers, and organic forms. Jaclyn Mednicov’s black and white work on paper installed amongst the deep wood and brick fireplace area encapsulates our embrace of visual juxtaposition when curating. Johalla Projects is excited to share our work with Porter, a new residential space in Oak Park, which is in partnership with Focus. At Porter, we crafted a curatorial collection of Chicago based artworks diverse with a range of mediums, styles, volume and scale. In the Lobby, residents are greeted with work by Maria Burundarena, Claire Ashley, and Chad Kouri, and as they make their way to the second floor they encounter a paper piece by Sarah Leuctner and a photograph by Ryan Edmund.

Johalla is honored to partner with the Democratic National Convention Host Committee to assist them with a program where we partnered with CPS student Sarah Al-Shawabkeh of William Howard Taft High School, Grade 11 who produced a design that landed on a button, postcard, tickets and video screens. Organized by Johalla, Sarah’s work was selected as the winner of a competition of artwork submitted by Chicago high school students and reviewed by a panel of jurors. Her design incorporates Chicago’s iconic architecture and the four stars of the Chicago flag. Thank you to the for this opportunity!

Huge shout out to Alyssa Low for completing a new mural for Wayfair in Edens Plaza in Wilmette. This mural is 40 feet wide and 44 feet tall, roughly 1,750 square feet. Johalla had the privilege of partnering with Havas and Wayfair to bring this colorful and joyful mural to life for the city of Wilmette

This Saturday, 2/10, is the last day to view Crafting Pragmatics at ENGAGE Projects, featuring the works of Angela Finney, Noel Mercado and Hope Wang. Come out for our special closing event from 4-7 PM and at 5:30 PM listen to Mercado and Finney give a brief walkthrough of the exhibition. This closing event will also feature three new works by Mercado City Blocks, not previously exhibited before, and available through Print and Object. See you on Saturday: Closing event from 4-7 PM

Johalla Projects collaborating with Lendlease to curate the art collection across the communal spaces of the residential building The Reed at Southbank, Chicago. Sculpture artist Eric Gushee had the creative space to go big and work across the lobby wall of this space. There, he transformed metal cable into a delicate curvalinear form of organic movement that givest fluidity to the linear interior architecture.

Bring in a favorite piece of clothing, fabric, or canvas bag and Noel will customize it with his limited edition hand cut flowers. These flowers are a part of the artwork “I’m Allowed to Waste My Time,” that is currently exhibiting in Crafting Pragmatics. First come first serve

Johalla Projects collaborated with Focus to bring contemporary art into the community spaces of their new residential building Porter located in Oak Park.
We collaborated with artist Alyssa Low on a mural located in the bike room of the residential space. The movement-inspired mural enlivens the space with kinetic curving forms and electric colors
