"“All Lock No Key.” “All Lock” marks a moment where Olson not only continues her longstanding interest in the dialectical exchange between space, image and the body, but forces viewers to confront the desires that drive them to name the constitutive elements of that relationship."
-Annette LePique/New City

B. Ingrid Olson's solo exhibition at Corbett vs. Dempsey deepens her investigation into doubling, desire and the limits of perception.

Nearly a decade has passed since clarinetist James Falzone left Chicago to assume the post of professor of music at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. But he keeps coming back.

"Fabricating everything fastidiously and from scratch, without assistants, out of components not designed to do what she asks of them, has resulted in years of inventiveness."
-Lori Waxman/Hyperallergic

From one angle, her sculptural constructions appear deep, but from another flat; here they look angled, there not.

"It seems to me that among Simpson’s great achievements is her use of a spatial system like isometry against itself. Her work shows precisely how unnaturally such systems capture everyday experience, and asserts that the forever responsive and shifting positions of caregiver and mother occupy a central—indeed essential—place within this liberation of view."
-Elizabeth Buhe/Brooklyn Rail

Diane Simpson has gained considerable visibility since her retrospective at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston in 2015–16 and her inclusion in the 2019 Whitney Biennial. Now—at the age of ninety—she is the subject of a career survey of sculptures and works on paper from the mid-1970s th...

Corbett vs. Dempsey's 6-CD release of The Bottle Tapes comes in at #14, amongst giants!

"The Bottle Tapes (14) is also a surprise, a 6-CD box that cherry-picks a decade’s worth of avant-jazz in Chicago, a series of concerts arranged by Corbett and Ken Vandermark. About half of the artists are Europeans, in a reversal of the usual pattern of Americans searching out audiences in Europe. "

Since 2014, the category has been dominated by previously unreleased music, mostly live shots.

"But now, 20 years after the last concerts of the series and 33 and a third years — the same as the playing speed of an LP — after the Empty Bottle was founded, Corbett, through his eponymous label Corbett vs. Dempsey, celebrates those heady times with The Bottle Tapes, 41 tracks from 1997 to 2005, totaling just over seven-and-a-half hours music from 86 local and visiting players." -JazzTimes
