“My work explores translations between materials, places, and cultures, and the poetic and
spiritual moments revealed in the gaps of translations with a minuscule way of viewing. I work
around fiber & textile, installations, and performance, translating images of nature like
landscapes and rocks into weavings, embroidery and ceramics. By imitating nature and
constantly evidencing the interplay between nature and materials, I am in search, in the
process of making and materiality of objects, of a state of existence, exist without being
present, exist within in-betweenness. I am in search of a space for poetic wandering in my
works, to examine a kind of nostalgia toward void and emptiness. This nostalgia responds to
the loss of home and landscape in the context of environmental and cultural migration. I draw
inspiration from Chinese ancient philosophies, art, and poetry for the methodologies of
examining emptiness and nihility and explore how they are translated into and respond to
contemporary context.”

Ouroborial by Alex Jarus — featured in Wander Home, opening October 4th 6-9pm at The Guesthouse Hotel.

“Placed upon a monolithic archway, this sphere of ash is carved with a twisting labyrinth, contained within a single line, weaving across its surface. As it stands, this vessel is an altar to the map, to a desire to see one’s future laid out in front of them. As much as this vessel is a desire for an omnipotent view of the blueprints of my own life, the higher power that this is calling upon is one of my own creation. I am the one who knees before this alter, asking the higher power, myself the artist and creator of this world in which these artifacts exist in, what will happen next.“

Tina Mari Rucker

Through diverse mediums—ranging from fiber art to sculpture and abstract painting—Wander Home reflects on how we construct home—within ourselves, through the objects we surround ourselves with, and in our relationships to others. Wander Home reconsiders the boundaries of home, not only as a fixed location, but as a space shaped by movement, memory, and personal growth.

Until November 4th.
