Artist Dee Barnett (c. 1992). Ink on paper. Original interior production artwork used in TSR’s Slave Tribes, a Dark Sun campaign setting accessory. The artwork is modeled after Brom’s cover artwork, and appears atop pages 4 and 5 of book’s Introduction.
About the artist: Dee Barnett worked at TSR as an artist and graphic designer from 1990 to about 2002. Per my research, she is a bit of an unsung TSR hero. While her artwork and contributions may not be readily recognized, she provided interior and exterior artwork for many of TSR’s Dungeons and Dragons projects including Dark Sun, 2e Psionics Handbook, Planescape, Birthright, DragonLance, TSR store displays, and several others!

DEATH IN THE DUNGEON OF TOMORROW (2021). Artist Doug Kovacs. Acrylic paint. Cover artwork for Xcrawl Classics (XCC) No. 4 RPG Adventure by Goodman Games.
About the artist (as told by the artist): Doug Kovacs grew up in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, playing Dungeons and Dragons and other RPGs . He drew his way through High School, avoiding involvement in most things but art class, where he cultivated a love for all forms of painting and drawing. At 16 he thought he invented cubism, but then realized he was wrong. He ingested punk, metal and prog rock throughout his youth which continues to this day. In 1996 he received a BA from Columbia College Chicago, however over four years of school it was never mentioned that the internet and digital media might completely change the world. Then they did.

Since then he has adjusted, and has worked on many projects including 3rd and 4th Edition Dungeons and Dragons, concept art for miniatures games, collectable trading card illustration including Sorcey contested Realm, and Magic the Gathering. Doug may be best known for having worked with Goodman Games in developing Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG, his sprawling body of work for DCC and his immersed involvement in the culture of it’s community.

Doug now conjures a series of art/gaming books ostensively for DCC RPG called the Hobonomicon. He continues to produce images that he believes will never come into existence without the application of his own personal gumption.

WARNING: Not suitable for all viewers! Artist Jeff Easley. We’re going to start the New Year with a piece that is equal parts disgusting and fascinating! Indeed, while many of you know of Jeff Easley’s unparalleled talents as an artist with the paintbrush, pen, or pencil, not many know of Jeff’s incredible talents as a sculptor.
This is a sculpted mouthpiece that Jeff created as part of a Halloween costume years ago. He crafted it with Sculpey and epoxy putty. Amazingly, Jeff designed this so the wearer, by using their tongue, is able to make the white maggots in the teeth move! Jeff is modeling his horrific creation in the last photo!
We hope everyone has a great 2026!
About the artist: Jeff Easley was born in Nicholasville, Kentucky in 1954. He graduated from Murray State University with a BFA degree in painting in 1977.

Jeff started his career as a professional artist by providing freelance cover artwork for various projects including Warren Publishing (Creepy magazine). In 1982, he joined the art staff at TSR Inc. There, he famously created cover and interior artwork to TSR’s Dungeons and Dragons role playing game in the 1980s and early 1990s. After leaving Wizards of the Coast in 2003, Jeff continues to produce artwork for individuals and game companies as a freelance artist.
