🎨☀️ Summer plans still coming together? We’ve got you covered! ☀️🎨

There’s still time to register for Creativity Camp 2026 at Hyde Park Art Center, running June 8–August 21 for kids ages 4–13 (Rising Pre-K–Rising 8th Grade). Our visual and performing arts camps invite young artists to explore, experiment, and create alongside professional teaching artists in our multi-media studios. With hands-on projects, inspiration from our exhibitions, and a welcoming, creative environment, Creativity Camp is a fun and meaningful way to spend the summer.

The Hyde Park Art Center is thrilled to announce a new program within the umbrella of its Jackman Goldwasser Residency. Built on our desire to support creative exchange between Chicago and other Midwest Artist Hubs, The Midwest Curatorial Residency supports the hosting of local curators from across the Midwestern United States for a durational or series of short visits to Chicago. The Art Center seeks to connect Chicago to the rest of the Midwest through conversation, studio visits and gathering.

We are excited to introduce Chava Maeve Krivchenia as the inaugural Midwest Curatorial Resident at Hyde Park Art Center from June 1-7 and June 15 -21, 2026.

“I have been struck by Chava’s unique ability to make artist practices come alive through her curatorial work, with impact and care. She is committed to understanding and uplifting the practices of artists through research, experimentation and I look forward to seeing how her time in Chicago will allow her current and future projects to develop.” - Gabriel Chalfin-Piney-González, Exhibitions and Residency Manager

Chava Maeve Krivchenia is a curator and writer and serves as the Assistant Curator at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center (Sheboygan, WI). With a professional and academic background in ecology and art history, her research and curatorial practices center on the intersection of contemporary art and ecology, discard studies, and natural histories.

🗓️ OPENING 6/6: The Singer Pavilion Project

Since 2020, artist Jeff Carter has explored the history and significance of the Singer Pavilion—the last remaining building of the former Michael Reese Hospital complex in Bronzeville and a design collaboration by architect Walter Gropius, the founder of the Bauhaus School.

This exhibition debuts 11 artworks, including sculptures, digital images, sound works and installations. Many pieces feature materials salvaged directly from the site: a waiting room chair, vinyl records, and native plants. A series of ‘zines developed in collaboration with artists with connections to the hospital and the surrounding Bronzeville community will also be included.

Together, the works in the exhibition prompt critical reflection on the Modernist promise of social progress, and considers how architectural ideals are compromised by histories of institutional failure, abandonment, and inequality.

This exhibition debuts 10 artworks, including sculptures, digital images, sound works, and zines created with the community. Many pieces feature materials salvaged directly from the site: a waiting room chair, vinyl records, and native plants.

Together, the works in the exhibition prompt reflection on the importance of this site as a case study of past and future efforts to develop this culturally rich yet under-resourced neighborhood while also examining evolving ideas about urban development, architectural preservation, and the legacy of Modernist aesthetic and social philosophy.
