AOII Chicago City is an alumnae chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi Women’s Fraternity for sisters in the Chicago area looking to hang out in the Second City. We strive to live up to AOII's mission statement, focusing on friendship, lifelong learning, leadership, and service. Friendship: We have great fun at our many events each year. As well as renewing and deepening existing friendships, we have the opp
ortunity to meet sisters from all over the US and Canada. The city group is proud of its diversity, ranging in age and representing more than 20 collegiate chapters. Among other activities, we enjoy happy hours, brunches, potlucks, Cubs and Sox games, movie and museum outings, and volunteering together. Exploring and experiencing our great City of Chicago is one of our favorite things to do! Lifelong Learning: We offer programming that encourages lifelong learning in many forms. In past years we have given members educational opportunities in estate planning, relaxation techniques, CPR, business etiquette, resume building, investing, artistic expression, and AOII ritual, just to name a few. We also support the graduate scholarships given out by the AOII Foundation. Leadership: We provide leadership and support to our local collegiate chapters at DePaul and the University of Chicago by supplying advisors, cosponsoring events, and mentoring and modeling AOII for a lifetime. We encourage our members to take leadership positions in organizations in their communities. We also provide leadership opportunities to our own members in the form of chapter offices and committee work. City group members have gone on to regional and international AOII offices. Service: We participate in several philanthropic activities throughout the year benefiting AOII's international philanthropy, Arthritis Research, as well as other local groups and the AOII Foundation. In recent years, we have raised money for these causes through, among other events, a purse-making party at 1154 Lill and a wine tasting at The Noble Grape. Every year we also collect gift cards, toiletries, and kids items to provide to the women and children of the Greenhouse Shelter through CAWC (Connections for Abused Women and their Children). We also donate our time to philanthropic projects such as holiday gift wrapping for charity, the Jingle Bell Run for the Arthritis Foundation, and packing food at the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
