This international group exhibition brings together Kyiv-based artists Katya Lisova and Matvii Vaisberg, and Ann Arbor-based Ira Bondarenko. Through printmaking, textiles, ceramics, and fiber, the works examine empathy, resilience, and the endurance of Ukrainian cultural identity in the face of Russia's ongoing war.

Full house, full hearts. 🌻

UIMA was honored to host Olia Hercules for a conversation about Strong Roots, her James Beard Award–nominated memoir of family, war, and resilience. Surrounded by works from our permanent collection, generations of our community came together to listen and connect.

In two weeks, we close "Between Voice and Silence," our exhibition reflecting on resilience, cultural memory, and the endurance of Ukrainian identity amid Russia's ongoing invasion, with a literary tribute to Ukrainian poet, volunteer, and soldier Maksym Kryvtsov (1990–2024), a Hero of Ukraine.

Now on view: "Jacques Hnizdovsky: Selections from the Permanent Collection"

UIMA is proud to present an extensive selection of works by one of the most celebrated Ukrainian-American artists of the 20th century, Jacques Hnizdovsky (1915–1985), drawn from our Permanent Collection.

Renowned for his masterful woodblock prints of cats, sheep, trees, and the natural world, Hnizdovsky's work is held in major institutions including the National Museum of American Art and Yale University.

This exhibition brings together an impressive array of his prints alongside several rare paintings—many on public view for the first time, including recent donations made over the past several years.

Presented as part of UIMA's 55th Anniversary celebration, this exhibition honors a beloved artist and our long-standing commitment to preserving and promoting Ukrainian art and culture. Visit us to experience these works in person!

Mark your calendars. On Sunday, June 14 at 2:00 PM, the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art hosts a special afternoon with Olia Hercules, the celebrated Ukrainian cookbook author whose work has brought the richness of Ukrainian culinary culture to readers around the world.

She will speak about her James Beard Award–nominated book, book, "Strong Roots: A Ukrainian Family Story through War, Exile and Hope," a story of family, exile, and the deep roots that sustain us.

Admission is free. Donations are encouraged. All are welcome!

We are delighted to announce a very special event at the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art. On Sunday, June 14 at 2:00 PM, UIMA welcomes Olia Hercules — internationally acclaimed Ukrainian cookbook author and food writer — for an afternoon conversation and presentation of her new book, "Strong Roots: A Ukrainian Family Story through War, Exile and Hope."

In this deeply personal work, Hercules traces her family's story through war, displacement, and perseverance, exploring how food and tradition carry culture across generations. Come meet one of the most compelling voices in Ukrainian cultural life today.
