This is what our galleries looked like in the 1970s. Same space. Same walls. Decades of art, memory, and community filling every corner since.

One week from tonight, those galleries will be full again. This time in celebration of 55 years of everything that began here. UIMA's Annual Benefit Gala is May 30th at 6:30pm.

Join us for an evening of Ukrainian art, inspiring speakers, and the kind of connection that only happens when a community comes together around something it loves.

Tickets are still available but going fast.

One night. Two visionary architects.

We are honored to share the program for UIMA's 55th Anniversary Benefit Gala on May 30th. Our keynote address will be delivered by Eleanor Esser Gorski, CEO & President of the Chicago Architecture Center, a leading voice at the intersection of design, culture, and civic life in Chicago and beyond.

And in a moment that will be truly special, UIMA will present a posthumous award to the legendary Stanley Tigerman, the architect whose iconic minimalist design has graced our façade since 1978. The award will be accepted by his wife and fellow architect, Margaret McCurry who will share her own reflections on Stanley's life, vision, and enduring legacy.

It is only fitting that on a night celebrating "The Enduring Legacy of Ukrainian Art," we also honor the man whose architecture has been home to that legacy for nearly 50 years.

Now on view: "Between Voice and Silence".

This exhibition explores the role of empathy and humanity in times of crisis. Through their works, Ukrainian and American artists Katya Lisova (textiles), Matvii Vaisberg (prints), and Ira Bondarenko (ceramics) reflect on the limits and power of human agency in the face of overwhelming force.

The value of humanity lies in its capacity to transcend adversity by embracing compassion and keeping empathy and human connection alive in the most oppressive darkness. The project examines this concept through the lens of works of Ukrainian artists and poets and emphasizes the role of ordinary people in building resilience and saving the state.

The exhibition honors the poetry and life of Ukrainian fallen soldier Maksym Kryvtsov and, by drawing its title from one of his poems, “ In that space between Voice and Silence,” invites the audience to relate to this “in-between” moment where the power of the human heart reigns.

Happy Mother's Day! 💐

Today we celebrate with "Untitled (Woman and Child)" by Olha Antonenko, a beautiful painting from our Permanent Collection that captures the tender bond between a mother and child. Wishing all the mothers, caregivers, and nurturers in our community a day full of love and joy. 🌸

This is the catalogue from our very first art exhibition.

A small group of artists and collectors in Chicago's Ukrainian Village believed that Ukrainian and contemporary art deserved a home, a platform, and an audience. So they built one. Fifty-five years later, that belief still drives everything we do.

This May 30th, we invite you to be part of what comes next — at UIMA's 55th Anniversary Benefit Gala: "The Enduring Legacy of Ukrainian Art: Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future." From a first exhibition to five decades of art, music, community, and resilience — this night celebrates it all.
