While the journey from 10 original aircraft to over 150 has been a long one, our mission has never changed. It is the Mission of Planes of Fame Air Museum to preserve aviation history, inspire interest in aviation, educate the public, and honor aviation pioneers and veterans. And although the Museum spans the history of manned flight from the Wright Flyer replica to the Space Age of Apollo, many m

ore chapters remain to be written and many more stories told before the vision of a young Ed Maloney is finally fulfilled.

Eighty-six years ago today, on May 29, 1940, the prototype XF4U-1 took to the skies for the very first time, launching the legacy of one of history’s most iconic fighter aircraft.

With its unmistakable inverted gull wings and the roaring power of its Pratt & Whitney Double Wasp engine, the Corsair quickly became a legend of World War II and Korea. Happy "Birthday" to the Whistling Death!

Did you see this unique display at Wings, Tracks, and Wheels this year? Our 1970 M816 Wrecker is usually placed out on display during the event, but this year, the guys in the motorpool came up with the idea of demonstrating what the wrecker could do. Our non-operating 1960 M151 Mutt, which normally is hidden from view from the public, was hoisted into the sky with ease by the Wrecker for a unique display! It really showcased the independent suspension on the rear wheels of the M151. What was your favorite vehicle display at WTW this year?

Don't miss your LAST chance to see the Boeing P-26 Peashooter take to the skies above Chino Airport, CA on June 6th, along with two other 'Golden Age of Flight' aircraft! The Peashooter will soon be crated up and making its journey up north to our soon-to-be-open Santa Maria facility. With the aircraft's age, it's too risk to fly it back and forth between Santa Maria and Chino, so she will remain up at Santa Maria once it arrives. Don't miss you chance to see it take to the skies again on June 6th! Doors open at 9am with the event starting at 10:30am. After some exciting presentations, the Peashooter, Staggerwing, and Fairchild will take to the sky for a flight demo over the museum! The event is included with standard museum admission.

Dan Stijovich shared this awesome 1983 retro photo of our North American B-25J Mitchell 'Photo F***y' (then called 'Betty Grable') launching out of Chino Airport. Do you have some old retro photos of our aircraft in different schemes? We'd love to see them, share them in the comments!

Today, on Memorial Day, we pause to honor the men and women who paid the ultimate price in service to our country. Their courage, sacrifice, and devotion will never be forgotten. Here at Planes of Fame Air Museum, preserving history also means preserving the memory of those who gave everything in defense of freedom.

The Museum is closed to the public today so our staff and volunteers may spend time with their families, but our mission to honor, remember, and share their legacy continues every day.

We were beyond honored to welcome World War II U.S. Navy veteran Ben Read to Wings, Tracks, and Wheels earlier this month! Ben was a favorite everywhere he went, and seeing him enjoy the day was a wonderful reminder of why events like this mean so much.

We were also grateful to welcome veterans from the Korean War, Vietnam War, Desert Storm, and beyond, along with active-duty military members. To each of you, thank you for your dedication, sacrifice, and the legacy you represent.

⭐Remembering Charles Nichols
We at Planes of Fame Air Museum offer our sincere condolences on the passing of Charles Nichols. For many years, his work at Yanks Air Museum stood alongside our own efforts at Chino Airport to preserve and interpret aviation history. We recognize the commitment and passion he brought to the field. We honor these efforts and extend our sympathy to his family and to all who were part of his life and legacy.

DID YOU KNOW⁉️In the 1930s, the Beech D17S Staggerwing was essentially the private jet of its day. While it looked like a classic biplane, it had a sleek enclosed cabin, retractable landing gear, a powerful Pratt & Whitney Wasp Junior radial engine, and could cruise at over 200 mph! A remarkable speed for a luxury aircraft with two wings.

Its famous “staggered” wings were not arranged in the usual way. On the Staggerwing, the lower wing sits farther forward than the upper wing, giving the airplane its unmistakable look and helping create one of the most elegant silhouettes of aviation’s Golden Age.

See this stunning Beech D17S Staggerwing take to the skies with two other Golden Age treasures, the rare P-26 Peashooter and Fairchild 24C-8F, at our June 6, 2026 Hangar Talk Flying Event!
