Chula Vistan, Jessica Sanchez is featured today on KPBS Finest. A story of coming of age and resilience by a gifted artist and now mother - 20 years later - and 2025 winner of America's Got Talent. The podcast includes perspective from FOSBE Committee member Anamaria Labao Cabato, executive director of the PASACAT Philippine Performing Arts Company.

Jessica Sanchez seemed born to be a star. At 10, she took the leap from singing in her local Filipino grocery store, Seafood City, in San Diego onto the very first season of "America's Got Talent" — at 16, onto "American Idol." But as quickly as she rose, everything began to unravel.

In observance of Veterans Day, we acknowledge the significant contributions of Filipino families in San Diego, many of whom have a legacy of service in the U.S. Military spanning generations. This heritage is highlighted in our exhibit at the Chula Vista Library, located at 365 F Street. We encourage you to visit rhe library during open hours to experience this distinctive display which is open till 2026.

Join us May 10, 2pm - 4pm at the Chula Vista Public Library to celebrate Asian American Pacific Islander Month. The curators of the Filipinos of South Bay Exhibit will be on hand to give tours of the exhibit before the presentation of Kapwa Through the Arts. The even is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

Two local artists will share the experience of kapwa. Salvador S. Idos, a retire Filipino language teacher will share his poem "Kapwa" found in his book "Sulyap ng Kadakilaan," ??? of greatness.

Bryan Pangilinan was raised in the South Bay and his involvement in community helped form his Filipino identity. He is a singer, dancer, musician and Composer/Executive Producer of "Larry the Musical," the story of Larry Itliong and the Farm Workers union in Delano, California.
