For this Art History Thursday we wanted to highlight on of Cincinnati’s German lithographers and writers who helped document the cities history in the 1800s and tell the stories of German immigrants in the region, Emil Klauprecht.

Klauprecht partnered with fellow lithographer Menzel to create on the premier printing companies of the early 1800s. The duo documented many historic areas of the region and OTR neighborhood, giving us an accurate picture of what life was like in the Midwest in the 1800s.

Klauprecht also became an accomplished writer, founding one of the first German newspapers and writing novels on the German experience in the Midwest.

Klauprecht is a great example of how art plays an important role in understanding the history of a region.

On this Art History Thursday we are discussing something ingrained in Cincinnati history, culture, and identity: beer.

Brewing is an art in its own right, but the cans we drink are also covered in art.

Bader+Simon is excited to share information on this unique art form with you today!

Our next exhibition is Devoted: Q***r Love and Other Offerings. Curated by Mario Elias.

We center the makers. We look at the many forms of devotion—community, identity, and the work required to maintain both.

On this Art History Thursday we are recognizing one of the first drag kings, Annie Hindle. Annie was an artist, a performer, a business person, and an activist.

Annie was known for taking high sums for their shows and would go on to purchase and manage the Grand Central Theatre in Cincinnati, which was highly unusual for a woman of that time.

Annie was also known for their many marriages, once as a bride and twice as a groom. Annie’s pride in their work and identity had people enthralled and marks them as an important early activist for gender fluid and transgender rights.

Annie’s trailblazing life and career demonstrates that despite the protestations of a few Supreme Court Justices in the 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges case, the history of q***r marriage reaches back much further than 2001.

42 million raised for the archive. 100k for a seat. While the institution celebrates history, the people are busy repairing the present.

In just three years, the has erased over $4 million in life-altering medical debt. This year, that mission expands to , ensuring health equity is a right, not a luxury.

At Bader + Simon, we return 100% of sales to the artist. At the Debt Gala, they return the power of survival to the community. This is how we fix the machine.
