Greater Cincinnati Police Historical Society

Greater Cincinnati Police Historical Society We temporarily closed our Museum, the "Number One" attraction in Greater Cincinnati in order to pack up and move to a larger location.

Details forthcoming when the reopening date approaches. The Greater Cincinnati Police Museum collects, displays, and presents history and artifacts of more than one hundred municipal, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies who have, for more than two centuries, served Boone, Butler, Campbell, Clermont, Dearborn, Hamilton, Kenton, and Warren Counties of Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio.

This is Cincinnati Police Chief Eugene Weatherly. It looks like there are three models of motorcycles in the pic. Perhaps some enthusiasts can help us out with identifying them. We do know that it is at 801 Race Street, looking south at Garfield Place and sometime between 1935 and 1951. And, yes, we know the Chief's kick stand is out.

We knew the Cincinnati Police Division was the first in the region for personal radios in 1969. North Bend Police and Lincoln Heights Police were next.

We had no idea that this region was the first in the nation.

Another recent find. Cincinnati Patrolman Clarence Pfansteil next to a 1948 Ford sedan "radio car."

Clarence was appointed a Cincinnati Police Recruit on July 11, 1954. He finished second in his Recruit Class and served in Districts 2, 5, and 1. During his short career, Lieutenant Charles Martin, Captain Paul Flaugher, and Captain Theodore Bird had nothing but praise for him and his work. Captain Bird assigned him to investigative duty in District One where he performed outstandingly. During his 10½ years of service, he earned nine letters of appreciation and/or commendation, including four from Police Chief Stanley Schrotel – three for robbery arrests and one for going into a burning building and saving two small children – one from the Special Agent in Charge of the local office of the Treasury Department for services rendered, and one from the Federal Bureau of Investigation for the arrest of a fugitive. Patrolman Pfanstiel resigned February 1, 1965, after 12½ years of service to his country and community, in order to start a private detective business. Patrolman Pfanstiel passed away on August 15, 2014 at the age of 86
