AN EXTENDED PORTRAIT SESSION
The first Sunday of each month | 10 am - 4 pm*
(*with a 1 hour lunch break from 12 - 1pm)

Looking to spend extra time studying the portrait?

Consider joining in the first Sunday of each month for the Extended Open Portrait Session.
During these days, participants can work from a clothed model in a single pose for up to 5 hours.

As with all Open Figure Life Drawing sessions, the Drawing Center’s relaxed yet vibrant, no-pressure environment inevitably leads to new learning, support, and productivity that complements formal study at the high school, college, or professional level.

Please note: Block pass holders will have two visits marked off their pass for the extended portrait sessions.

Happy birthday to Alexander Archipenko (1887–1964)! 🎂 Born on this day in Kyiv, Ukraine, Archipenko pushed the limits of sculpture throughout his long career. He is arguably best known for his sculpto-peintures (sculpto-paintings). These works often used ordinary materials such as wood, wire, and glass, to produce a combination of sculpture and painting. In this sculpto-peinture, "Woman with a Fan II" (1915), Archipenko pulls from Cubism. The painted two- and three-dimensional elements seamlessly blend together to create volume. Through these sorts of fusions, Archipenko radically expanded his means of expression.

🪭 Big fan: See Alexander Archipenko's "Woman with a Fan II" (1915) in "Revolutions," only at the Hirshhorn.
