Heartland Museum We are open Sept. 4 & 5 regular hours, 10 am - 4 pm, last admission 2 pm. After Sept. 5th, we are open by appointment until Memorial Day. Call 515-602-6000

We are staffed by volunteers and will try to meet your timeframe. www.heartlandmuseum.org. We are filled with vintage tractors and horse drawn equipment; street scenes out of the past, and so much more! We tell the story of agriculture in North Central Iowa and preserve some local collections that might otherwise disappear. We celebrate small towns that make rural Iowa a treasure, and the people who made it happen.

When you think of Iowa, what are things that come to mind? Did you know that Iowa has 99 counties, and 101 courthouses? Tyler Sullivan has been to 98 out of the 99 counties, and has been to 1,315 cities across the state. He also is running at least in a mile in all these communities and to make it more memorable, he forms a poem for each of the counties he visits. In 2024 he traveled to over 150 museums across the state, and in 2025 he challenged himself to visit 250 museums and attractions across the state an saw an astonishing 366 attractions. Over 500 in the last two years alone. Over 230 museums so far in 2026! Come and listen to his adventures he has experienced across Iowa.

We are so pleased to announce that in addition to donations by private sources, we received a grant from thhe Country School Grant Program from the State Historical Society of Iowa! This grant, in addition to private donations, has us approximately 50% of the funds raised! We are very thankful to our donors for helping us keep this historic one room schoolhouse in good shape!

Heartland Museum is hosting a Quilt Show starting July 15 - July 23 during their open hours. In addition, a presentation of Barn Quilts will be shown while we have visitors.

Anyone can display a quilt they made, or was given to them. It is free admittance to view the quilts, Wednesday thru Saturday from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. Monday and Tuesday hours are 8:30 – 11:00 am. Quilters are asked to bring their quilt(s) to the museum on Monday, July 13 or Tuesday, July 14. The quilts can be picked up on Friday, July 24th, or by arrangement. Entry forms will be available to identify owners.

Heartland Museum has quilts that have been donated and plans to display them during the quilt show. Some of the quilts are quite old and not always on display! Quilt show is in the Community Room, 119 9th St. SW in Clarion.

We have received several donations already! THANK YOU! Both the schoolhouse and main museum need new roofs this year - quite an expense! We have received one grant for the schoolhouse roof bid, which brought us down to the $20,000 we are accepting donations for.

We are very lucky to have this schoolhouse and its history as the birthplace of the 4-H Emblem.
