Did you know the Clarksburg History Museum is part of the Harrison County, WV Historic Preservation Alliance?

The Alliance brings together local organizations dedicated to preserving and sharing Harrison County's history, including historic buildings, museums, archives, collections, and cultural traditions.

This election season, Harrison County voters will consider a proposed historic preservation levy that, if approved, would provide dedicated funding for participating organizations including the museum.

We wanted to share this information to help residents learn more about the Alliance, its participating organizations, and the proposed levy.

Uneven brick streets, long forgotten buildings, and dapper gentlemen occupy West Pike Street in this undated photo from the early 20th century.

A great reference point, the Waldo Hotel is holding down its corner as it still does today.

What a view! West Main Street, Clarksburg, West Virginia looking East - cars are parked in both directions indicating two way traffic at the time. Fourth street curves around the corner to W Main with a very different street scape than what we know now.

The year is no earlier than 1912, since the Union Bank building is in view where the Traders Hotel once stood. The Harrison County courthouse sits just out of view, just like always on Clarksburg's main street photos. Some things never change!

A WV STATE TAX CREDIT FOR SUPPORTING LOCAL HISTORY? YES!

The Clarksburg History Museum is participating in West Virginia's Neighborhood Investment Program (NIP), which allows qualifying donors to receive a state tax credit equal to 50% of their donation.

And this isn't just for businesses! Individuals can participate, too.

Donations start at $500, and you don't have to live in Clarksburg to participate.

Your donation supports the museum's work preserving and sharing Harrison County history.

Congratulations to Clarksburg History Museum Board Member Angela Leipold on being named one of this year’s Women Inspiring Success!

Her dedication to her beloved hometown of Clarksburg is very much appreciated and we applaud her work.

About Angela:

Angela is a native of Clarksburg and a graduate of Notre Dame High School. For 25 years, she ran high-profile special events in the Nation’s Capital and around the country for the Smithsonian Institution, including the opening of the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI). Her portfolio at the NMAI included oversight of the Board of Trustees, the Membership program, Special Events, and the Museum Cafe and Gift Shop.

She returned to Clarksburg to manage one of her family’s properties: The Morris, a restored 1900s warehouse turned venue. Also, she shares her love of all things vintage through her shop, Allora Vintage. Angela is committed to advancing business, cultural, and artistic opportunities in Clarksburg and the Glen Elk Historic District. She serves on many local boards.
