The American Revolution looks very different depending on which side of it you were on. Jim Piecuch explores the experiences of three groups who allied with the British Crown during the Revolutionary War in the Deep South โ€” Loyalists, Native Americans, and enslaved people โ€” and tells the story of what they stood to gain, what they sacrificed, and what ultimately became of them.

He fought across the South Carolina backcountry, negotiated with Native American nations, served in Congress, and helped shape the early republic โ€” yet most Americans have never heard his name.

Clemson's own Professor Rod Andrew brings General Andrew Pickens back into the spotlight with the definitive biography of one of the founding generation's most fascinating and understudied figures. Soldier, diplomat, church leader, and congressman โ€” Pickens did it all, right here in our backyard.

Evening tour of Hopewell House included โ€” the site of the 1785 Treaty of Hopewell, the first treaty between the U.S. and Native American nations.
