Just announced! 🖤✨The Cleveland Museum of Art has acquired Soil Horizon(Cleveland), a site-specific commissioned work by acclaimed artist Teresita Fernández, whose work is characterized by an expansive rethinking of what constitutes landscape. 
 
Comprising two large-scale glazed ceramic wall murals, the work will be installed in the Jane and Jon Outcalt Family Concourse, connecting the museum’s Horace Kelley Art Foundation North Lobby with the Ames Family Atrium, beginning in February 2027.

This new exhibition explores Wyeth’s use of watercolor during the early decades of his career, including rarely exhibited landscapes, interior scenes, and studies of people and places in rural Maine and Pennsylvania.

On the occasion of Spectacular Freedom: Andrew Wyeth and the Modern American Watercolor—the first in-depth exploration of this important part of Wyeth’s career—exhibition curator Britany Salsbury is joined by William L. Coleman, director of the Wyeth Study Center and Wyeth Foundation curator, Brandywine Museum of Art, for a conversation about Wyeth’s lifelong fascination with watercolor and his place within the history of this medium in the United States in the United States.

Coming soon! Journey to the realms beyond death in Ten Kings of Hell: The Afterlife in Medieval Korea.

Organized in partnership with the National Museum of Korea, this landmark international exhibition, Ten Kings of Hell: The Afterlife in Medieval Korea, explores the artistic legacy of the Goryeo dynasty (918–1392), posing daring questions: How did medieval Koreans envision the world beyond death and how did works of art and materiality shape and reflect that imagined realm?

Presenting an exceptional array of important artworks including recent CMA acquisitions and contemporary works, this exhibition features the historic reunification of a dispersed set of ten hanging scrolls from the 1300s depicting the Ten Kings of Hell. Brought together for the first time since the 1960s, the scrolls offer a rare opportunity to experience the set’s panoramic sequence of judgment, atonement, and salvation.

Ten Kings of Hell opens on October 11.

The Gift: Emma Amos with Friends is on view now at the Cleveland Museum of Art.

This exhibition centers on Amos’s monumental portrait series The Gift (1990–94), recently acquired by the Cleveland Museum of Art.

This suite of 48 watercolor portraits, painted from life, depicts women artists, writers, and curators in Amos’s intergenerational community. The evocative paintings are united in a vast grid whose scale radiates the force of its subjects.
