CHS Founding President Bill McDermott Passes Away at Age 95

Our society is saddened to learn that our founding president, Bill McDermott, has passed away at age 95. Bill formed our Town of Clinton Historical Society in 1975, first meeting in our town library. He was a frequent speaker on local history, and an accomplished author of thirteen books, including our major resource "green book "Clinton, a History of a Town."

In 1995 he led the effort to acquire the 1777 Creek Meeting House from the Upton Lake Grange that is now our headquarters and exhibit hall, and which helped begin the strong membership growth leading to the approximate 270 member families we have today. Bill will surely be missed.

The family is inviting the friends of Louise and Bill McDermott to attend a luncheon at the Creek Meeting House, 2433 Salt Point Turnpike, Clinton Corners this Monday, April 20, from 11AM to 2PM. No RSVP is needed. A brief talk of their contributions to our Society will be given.
