Currently, my work is inspired by the feeling that a sense of mystery is slowly disappearing from our modern world.
I believe art, in most forms, carries a wish to protect a deep-rooted, universal desire to preserve some mystery in the world. A mystery that is under constant erosion by the unceasing march of technological development and the human urge to explain, to fill in our “map” with facts, formulas, and details. But if the magical is being squeezed out of our cartography, it sneaks back in through our folklore and arts.
My work is about using images and objects to create a world where the viewer can be curious and can stop to consider the supernatural qualities of everyday life. For me, making art is a way to foster hope that the world may never be fully known and will always have its mysteries.


Brigette Neal has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Wayne State University, Detroit, MI.

One week from today we will celebrate our first gallery show of the season with a closing reception for "Cosmic Connections" featuring the work of Abbigail Israelsen and Kathryn Knudsen. Please join us between 5-8 PM in The Art Gallery in L building on center campus. A map is in the comments. Look for the blue flag outside the building that says "Gallery Opening Today"
