Current hours Wed–Fri 10–4; Sat–Sun 11–5. The Red Mill Museum Village is the setting for over 200 years of history. Within the walls of a dozen buildings, contained in the wood and cloth of 40,000 objects are the stories of the growth of a community. The museum offers changing exhibits, lectures, concerts and special events that provide visitors with an ongoing conversation with the past.

This year, they've got a FULL PORTABLE SKATEPARK to set up. Whether your child has never stepped on a board or is ready to level up, these sessions are designed to be:

Transform vintage textiles into contemporary works of art in this beginner-friendly workshop with textile artist Susan Bleignier. Using a curated selection of antique and vintage doilies, lace, embroidered linens, quilt fragments, and other repurposed fabrics, participants will create a unique hand-stitched collage while learning simple embroidery and textile art technique.

Participants will explore hand-coloring fabrics, composition, layering, and stitching to create a small artwork that blends history, creativity, and personal expression. No sewing experience is required, and all materials are provided.

Hand stitching is relaxing, portable, and rewarding. Join us for an afternoon of creativity, conversation, and community while giving new life to beautiful textiles from the past.

For Jordan Washington, learning is a lifelong adventure. A martial arts and parkour instructor by trade, Jordan joined the Red Mill Museum Village as a School Tour Guide in 2025 after looking for a new experience and a chance to be part of something meaningful. What he found was a community where he could share his love of teaching while continuing to learn himself. β€œIt never feels like work,” he says. β€œIt’s always an adventure.”

Over the past year, Jordan has helped bring history to life for thousands of students and even taken on a new challenge: learning blacksmithing in the museum’s forge. This season, he reached a major milestone when he served as the blacksmith for a school tour on his own for the first time. Whether he’s leading tours, working in the forge, or helping around the grounds, Jordan says the Red Mill is a place where people can learn, grow, and be themselvesβ€”and we’re grateful to have him as part of our team.

We'd like to share our immense gratitude to Kens Tree Service for doing such a thorough and professional job here recently. Maintaining a park-like setting at our beautiful riverside site isn't easy and the job is made much easier by having reliable community partners like them!

Kens Tree Service belongs to our Directors Council, an advisory board made up of local professionals who share their expertise with us. They may be asked to attend an occasional meeting to advise on best practices for repairing an historic structure or weigh in on things like whether a leaky pipe could be handled by our talented groundskeeper or best fixed by a licensed plumber.

Have you seen this amazing flag that's a part of our Mill to Mill Peace Flag Project and wondered how it was made? This is an example of traditional rug hooking and now's your chance to learn how to do it!

Rug Hooking School at the Red Mill Museum Village offers a hands-on, small-group introduction to the history, techniques, and artistry of traditional rug hooking, led by members of the Hunterdon County Rug Artisans Guild. Designed for beginners, this single-session class held in our air-conditioned meeting room provides guided instruction focused on building a strong foundation in the craft.

Students will begin creating a simple heart design on an 8” x 10” linen backing while learning the essential techniques and rhythm of this historic fiber art. The class emphasizes skill-building and confidence, allowing participants to continue their projects independently after the session.

As we reflect on this important chapter in our nation's history, we honor the resilience, contributions, and enduring legacy of Black Americans and recommit ourselves to preserving and sharing the stories that shape our collective past.

Discovery Days 2026 are off to a soft opening with some extras built in to regular museum admission on Friday and Sunday. On Friday from 1-3, stop into the ArtifactLAB on the second floor of the mill for "Ask a Curator."

You'll find our Curator of Collections, Elizabeth Cole, and her team of volunteers working on cleaning, preserving and accessioning tools from the museum's collection. Stop in and learn what it is that curators do to properly preserve artifacts, learn how markings on a tool help tell its story and so much more!

On Sunday, we'll have a blacksmith in the shop giving demonstrations and answering questions. Be sure to follow our Discovery Days 2026 event page to stay updated on this summer's schedule!
