❤️ "Service to others runs deep, just like our love for one another." ❤️

Dr. Glenda Wright, a proud AmeriCorps alum from , knows firsthand the incredible power of community action. In our latest , she shares how everyday people are stepping up to make a difference—from a local homemaker creating a digital resource guide for food pantries, to someone gifting a car to a former foster and starting a statewide .

Her Service Year taught her a vital lesson: when we commit to doing what we can, when we can, paired with love and an open heart, it creates real change that will be felt for generations.

Real people. Real work. Real love.

The Declaration of Independence boldly declared "all men are created equal". In practice, many people in the new nation including women, enslaved and free African Americans, Indigenous peoples and others were not treated as equals. Yet, those who were excluded nevertheless served the new nation in vital ways.

- Abigail Adams opposed slavery and advocated for women's rights, urging the Continental Congress to "Remember the Ladies".
- Harriet Tubman put the nation's founding ideals into practice by leading others to freedom at great personal risk.

Without the service of All The People, The Revolution and the "American Experiment" would never have succeeded.

"It's an incredible way to interact with communities I wouldn't normally interact with on a day-to-day basis, and really celebrate the beauty and diversity of America."

In this installment of Our American Story, we hear from Amy Weiss, who works with Repair the World —the Jewish service movement. Amy beautifully explains how the core value of Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) calls us to show up for the people around us, especially the most vulnerable.

When we mobilize to serve alongside our neighbors, we do more than just give back—we build bridges, celebrate our shared diverse nation, and move our country forward together.

As the United States marks 250 years of independence this year, we reflect on the unbroken chain of courage that has sustained our nation since 1776. From the Revolutionary War to modern conflicts, generation after generation have laid down their lives for a cause greater than themselves.

Today, we honor the brave men and women in uniform who, across two and a half centuries, laid down their lives to secure the freedoms we hold dear. We will never forget them.

When you step up to serve your community, you don't just change the lives of others—you find your people.

Rod Martinez share his firsthand account of the incredible work being done through violence interruption and "credible messenger" mentoring programs. These initiatives empower those who have transformed their own lives to mentor vulnerable youth, helping them navigate tough situations and keeping them out of the justice system. It is heavy, life-changing work.

But beyond the profound impact on the youth, there's another beautiful side to service: the community you build while doing it. Tackling difficult issues alongside passionate, dedicated people often leads to lifelong friendships.

🌷 Service is blooming in , !

Recently, Edmonds became the nation's first-ever "Community of Service." Through an initiative called Edmonds Serves, local businesses and venues are displaying posters that highlight the incredible, everyday volunteers who make the city such a wonderful place to live. Combined with community wide events, it’s a beautiful way to make service visible, valued, and embedded into daily life.

We are so proud to help plant these seeds in Edmonds. But the best part about seeds? They grow! 🪴

Keep an eye on this space... we're dreaming up ways to bring this movement to communities across the country. Interested in learning more, reach out to get involved!

National service is rarely just a chapter in a person’s life—it’s often the spark that ignites a lifelong commitment to giving back.

In the special "250 & Beyond" series of the AmeriCorps Connections podcast, host Nicki sits down with alumni to explore exactly how a term in AmeriCorps or the Peace Corps translates into a lifetime of service. They are diving deep into the hard-won lessons, the unexpected benefits, and how those early experiences in community building continue to shape their paths today.

As we look toward our country's 250th anniversary, there is no better time to reflect on the lasting legacy of service.
