Fiddleheads A Great North Woods Shoppe Fiddlehead's is a retail shoppe featuring fine American Craft. The toughest challenge was to be able to offer all of this at an affordable and reasonable price.

Fiddleheads began as an idea in early 2006, with the vision to create an artisan gift shop offering quality-handcrafted items to the local community and tourists alike. The items had to be not only of good quality and possess appeal they had to be created by American craftsman. Within that ideal, the focus was to showcase primarily New England and also New Hampshire artisans. There had to also be

a responsibility to offer Fair Trade produced items as well as Canadian since the shop is located approximately 8 miles from the Canadian border. The owner Bette Guerin does extensive research on a continuing basis to find unique offerings, traveling to different venues when the opportunity exists. The shop opened on May 5th, 2007 and was instantly embraced by the local community. The community’s support has enabled Fiddleheads to continue to showcase affordable works of art and to grow its unique inventory. The shop offers “Artisan Spotlights”, which gives local artisans the opportunity to have a day dedicated to their craft and to meet shoppers on a one to one basis. The shop and its artisans have also used these opportunities to support local charities by raising money through raffles using items donated by the artisans. Currently, the shop carries over 125 New Hampshire artisans and an additional 375 New England and National artisans. Produced items by American and Canadian companies continue to grow. An alliance was formed with CRAG (Connecticut River Artisan Group), which has within its membership over 50 artisans from New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont and Canada. A gallery space has been created to promote this organizations talent and opened in the Spring of 2010. Fiddlehead's mission is to promote local, regional and national artisans and to be connected to the community through organizations that focus on the arts. Fiddleheads is a member of New Hampshire Made, CRAG and the American Made Alliance. Bette served as VP and Treasurer on the board of the GNWCA (Great North Woods Committee For The Arts) based in Colebrook for 10 years. Looking to the future for ways to broaden the awareness of the arts in the “North County” as well as to provide wonderful gifts for the consumer, Fiddleheads happily takes on the challenge! .Always on the lookout for the unique and special, Fiddleheads continues to find exactly that for their customers!

The season calls for flowers and of course, the arrival and feeding of our winged jewels; the hummingbirds!

Our line of glassware is designed in Texas and features beautifully colored glass with handles allowing the vase/propagation vessel to sit flat on a surface, or to be hung in a window for a beautiful sparkle of color in the sunshine! Our taller clear vase sits in its own stand and has a small footprint to rest anywhere you feel it shows your flowers or root cuttings the best.

The hummingbird feeder is made entirely of glass with a wide opening to make cleaning and filling a breeze. Glass is more hygienic as well. The feeder sits in its own lead-free painted metal holder. The holder can be hung from a hook, but an added feature is multiple holders can be hooked together for more feeding ports and the ability to feed more hummingbirds! Lastly, remove the red glass feeding port in the winter, and use the glass bottoms to supply seeds to the birds who stay in the wintertime!

This year, Pops Birding Co., has developed a patent-pending design on the perch section of their hummingbird swing. The "Poly-Perch" was specifically designed to give hummingbirds the most comfortable perch to rest on while mimicking the look, shape and feel of what they seek in nature.
The bronze swing should be placed near a feeder or nectar-rich flowering plant, and hummingbirds will use the swing as a territorial perching spot to watch over their food source and will even swing on it. It's a great way to enjoy them and to photograph them.
(AND... we have to admit; they look stinking cute doing so!)

** CALLING ALL BIRD LOVERS!! **

Our Bark Edge Basswood (Linden Wood) birdhouses are designed to blend naturally into the surroundings. Special features include no perch for predators to use, an in-built ladder to aid the young birds when they are ready to leave the nest, along with a keyhole for easy mounting and removal of the nest box. Instructions are included for correctly mounting the nest box.

1) Each birdhouse has thick walls to maintain even temperatures during the breeding season to protect the eggs and the chicks. The natural bark edge builds trust in the birds and encourages usage. The interior ladder helps the fledglings exit the nest when they are ready but provides no aid to predators.

2) No perch along with the thick walls help prevent predators such as Squirrels and Raccoon gaining access to the eggs or chicks.

3) The rear routed keyhole makes it easy to mount the nest box in your garden. We recommend cleaning and drying the nest box at the end of the season.

Our friend Robyn from Lowell, Massachusetts creates these felted "strings" in her studio. Each string is handmade and features her felted "characters" along with a sprinkling of hearts throughout. Most are approximately 32 inches in length.

Our "Heart Strings" look great on walls, doors, or in windows, and hang easily from any nail, hook or rod.

Hailing from Portsmouth, NH, artist Kim Ferreria earned her B.F.A. at the University of New Hampshire.
She was once asked if happy scenes are harder to paint than serious ones. Her answer was:
" I have a hard time with the state of the world, so I think of this work as sort of an escape for me and a way to focus on positive things. What are things that are really pleasing to me, that bring me joy, that make me happy. And then I try to depict that through these animals doing different things that bring me joy. "

Our collection of her various cards will definitely bring a smile and a happy thought....and that's a beautiful thing!

We currently carry many of Kim's images on cards (all blank inside) and we have four different totes to choose from. The totes are 100% cotton canvas and measure 14" X 15.5 ". They make a great gift for someone or a treat for yourself!
