45º | Gallery & Custom Framing: Celebrating Colorado Creativity & Craftsmanship

Tucked into the heart of historic Old Colorado City, 45º has been connecting people to Colorado’s vibrant art scene since 2010. What began as a shared vision for husband-and-wife team Reed and Emily Fair has become a destination where creativity, craftsmanship, and community come together.

“When we opened 45º, we wan

ted a space that highlighted both of our strengths,” Emily explains. “A place for me to connect with Colorado artists and collectors, and for Reed to establish us as a trusted destination for framing. A place to pause and consider all of the possibilities, from collecting to preserving what matters most to them.”

A Hub for Local Art
The gallery now represents more than 30 Colorado artists, many of them based right here in Colorado Springs. Its collection spans paintings, pottery, jewelry, furniture, and sculpture. Each piece carefully selected to showcase the state’s creative talent.

“We know our artists personally,” Emily says. “We follow their creative journeys, celebrate their successes, and love sharing their stories with visitors. When someone purchases a piece here, they’re not just taking home art, they’re supporting the people who make this community vibrant.”

This emphasis on connection has made 45º a trusted source for both new and seasoned collectors. Visitors can expect to discover work that feels fresh and distinctive, whether they’re adding to a collection, choosing a meaningful gift, or simply finding inspiration. Behind the Frames
Equally integral to 45º is its custom framing studio. Reed brings over 20 years of experience in framing, with expertise in conservation techniques to protect and preserve art for generations. His craftsmanship ensures every piece is treated with care and presented at its best.

“Framing is often the quiet partner to art,” Reed notes. “Done well, it elevates the work and creates a lasting connection between the piece and the person who owns it.”

Emily’s design sense complements Reed’s technical skill, resulting in presentations that are both thoughtful and unique. With mouldings sourced from around the world—including lines not available anywhere else in Colorado Springs—each framing project becomes as individual as the artwork itself. A Place to Feel at Home
Step into 45º, and you’ll find more than just a gallery or framing shop. The Fairs’ family presence is felt throughout. Moose, their gentle shop dog, greets visitors with a wagging tail, and their daughter Hazel often lends a hand. It’s a reminder that 45º is rooted in personal connection as much as professional expertise. Visitors can browse the ever-evolving collection, request free custom framing quotes, or even arrange for local delivery and personalized installation. Select pieces are also available online, offering flexibility for those who want to support local artists from afar. Looking Ahead
After nearly 15 years, 45º continues to evolve alongside Colorado Springs’ growing art community. Its mission remains the same: to make art accessible, personal, and enduring.

“We believe art should bring joy, spark conversation, and create a sense of place,” Emily reflects. “That’s what we strive for every day, helping people connect with something meaningful, whether it’s a handmade bowl, a treasured family photo, or a piece of art they’ll love for a lifetime.”

“We do not know one promise these men made, one pledge they gave, one word they spoke; but we do know they summed up and perfected, by one supreme act, the highest virtues of men and citizens. For love of country they accepted death, and thus resolved all doubts, and made immortal their patriotism and their virtue.”

– James A. Garfield, May 30, 1868

“I make pots because I love to work with clay. I love the feel of clay in my hands, whether I’m throwing or hand-building. I love watching clay take shape, and feeling the clay respond to my guidance always makes me smile. But the people who take my pots home to be loved and used are just as vital. I enjoy making functional forms that will enrich people’s daily lives, and I feel honored that the pots I make are admired for their beauty. What a privilege it is to have the work of my hands and my heart chosen to share the homes of friends, neighbors, and strangers, and to know that my work holds meaning for other people.

This new collection grew from my passion for teaching. My latest book, Pottery for the Home and Garden, explores all the ways pottery can be used for purposes other than food. This includes lamps and lanterns to light up your world; planters and bird feeders to nurture nature; fountains to bring the sound of living water into your home; soap dishes, soap dispensers, and sponge holders to enhance the routines of daily life; and so much more!” Sumi

Meet OCC based artist Stephanie Moon
Friday May 1st from 5 to 8 pm

“I love the ephemeral moments in our lives the most. Fleeting experiences that remind us to slow down and live in the moment, for we know they will not last and we cannot go back. In Colorado we are frequently blessed with epic sunrises and sunsets, each one unique and rapidly shifting before the day either begins or ends. A collective reminder to stop and experience awe.
This collection of work focuses on the evolution of light during daybreak and sundown, capturing the brief but perfect moments of light on the clouds, the alpenglow, the warm all-encompassing radiance of the sun. The skies hold brilliant colors, while the earth and the water reflect them back from below. Each piece serves to provide you with the incredible beauty of the earth while also reminding you of the impermanence of it all.
This collection is created in my signature style, allowing vivid color and defined mark-making to create playful landscapes with soothing movement.”
