Meet Bela Power from Estes Rockets in Denver, Colorado!

Bela became a Teacher Liaison after a friend encouraged her to join while she was working as a K–5 Special Education teacher. Her passion for space exploration and STEM education drew her to a community of educators who share her drive to inspire students through space.

Through Estes Education Bela has helped develop the Rocket Revolution Toolkit, a collection of resources for educators and students. For Bela, the work is especially meaningful because it connects students and groups around the world through a shared excitement for rocketry and space-STEM learning.

Her advice to fellow educators? Use the free resources available and don’t be afraid to try something new. Organizations like Estes Education, Civil Air Patrol, and Space Foundation offer tools to help bring space-STEM into the classroom. Model rocketry can feel intimidating at first, but support is out there, and sometimes the best learning happens when teachers explore right alongside their students.

Meet Phillipa — Space Foundation Discovery Center’s Volunteer of the Month.

If she could witness any moment in space history? The Moon landing, no hesitation. “I am so envious of the Americans that got to see that live on TV. Maybe if we get to Mars I’ll get to feel that same thing.”

When she’s not at the Discovery Center, you’ll find Phillipa playing Dungeons & Dragons with friends she’s made here in Colorado Springs, or spending a quiet Saturday with her wife of almost ten years.

Phillipa was voted Volunteer of the Month by her peers, a reflection of the warmth, curiosity, and dedication she brings every time she’s here.

Look at these future rocket scientists! 🚀

We had a blast at Westside Community Center this week, where 30 explorers built their very own Space Launch System rockets! In celebration of World Space Week, our Small Steps, Giant Leap program explored NASA's Artemis program and the rocket designed to carry astronauts toward the Moon.

Registration for the National Space Sustainability Competition is now open, submissions are due Friday, Jan. 15. 🌎

Registration for the National Space Sustainability Competition is now open.

This year, teams of 6th through 8th grade students will take on a real engineering problem: how to power life in Earth’s orbit sustainably.

The top three teams earn cash prizes for every team member, plus a CubeSat NEA Scout and toolkit for each:

- 1st place: $1,500 per student
- 2nd place: $1,000 per student
- 3rd place: $500 per student

It’s free to enter, lesson plans are ready to use, and one teacher or program leader can guide several teams.

Meet Ellonna — Space Foundation Discovery Center's Volunteer of the Month.

"I love inspiring and making others happy, as well as sharing and learning about space. It brings me so much joy. Being a volunteer has helped make me who I am today — being able to share my joy everywhere I go."

If she could fly any fictional spacecraft, Ellonna has two strong candidates: the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars or the Benatar from Guardians of the Galaxy. And if NASA called with a seat on a mission? She'd stay earthside — but only to help direct and witness it from the ground.

Ellonna was voted Volunteer of the Month by her peers, a reflection of the enthusiasm and dedication she brings every time she's here.

We had a fantastic time with our friends at Hillside Community Center for our Small Steps, Giant Leaps program!

Participants enjoyed a reading of "Hooray for SLS" by Lane P***k before building their very own models of NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) rocket.
