Second Lieutenant James Capers Jr. was recently awarded the Medal of Honor for extraordinary valor and self-sacrifice during the Vietnam War.

From March 31 to April 3, 1967, Capers led a nine-man team deep into enemy territory. Capers effectively coordinated with his team and support units to push back attacks from a superior number of enemy forces, showing true leadership even after sustaining multiple wounds.

His unyielding devotion to his fellow Marines embodies the absolute highest traditions of the United States Marine Corps.
