Boone County History & Culture Center The Boone County History & Culture Center, home of the Boone County Historical Society Since 1924 that has been our mission.

Incredible truths arise when we provide space for art and history to coexist. As the only cultural center of its kind focused solely on preserving local heritage, we use our 4,500 square feet of exhibits, the expansive Montminy Art Gallery, the beloved 1877 Maplewood House and more to evaluate our past and help set a new course for the future.

A remarkable piece of Boone County history is finding a new home.

We are honored to share that the Locust Grove Baptist Church will soon become part of Historic Boone Village.

This incredible gift is made possible through the generosity of the late Linda Humes and Boone County native Gene Gruender. Their vision ensures that this historic church, rooted in the 19th-century pioneer spirit, will continue to tell the story of faith, community, and connection for generations to come.

For more than 100 years, Locust Grove served as both a spiritual and social center for families in Boone County. It was more than a place of worship. It was a gathering place, a cornerstone of community life, and a witness to the stories that shaped our region.

Later this summer, the building will make its journey down Hwy 63 to be carefully restored and preserved as part of our Historic Village.

Follow along as we begin this exciting next chapter.

A treasure hunt with multiple kinds of treasure 💎

There was the treasure in coming together, meeting new people, exploring your community… and the cherry on top: an actual real-life $10,000 diamond waiting to be found.

We’re so grateful to Buchroeders Jewelers, our presenting sponsor of Booneanza '26, for helping bring this adventure to life in the most literal way possible by donating the diamond at the center of it all.

Because of their support, Booneanza '26 wasn’t just a game of clues and puzzles. It became a true real-life treasure hunt.

Thank you, Buchroeders, for helping make the story possible 💎

The diamond has been found 💎

After days of twists, turns, second guesses, and plenty of nail-biting moments, one team cracked the code and uncovered the $10,000 diamond.

A huge congratulations to Team Smooth Noodles 👏 Michael Hardy, Angela Johnson, Melissa DeBartolomeo, Chris Barnett, Michael Barbaro, Justin Krohn, Yan Barnett (not pictured), and David Cavins (not pictured)

This team of MU Extension coworkers tackled the hunt as a true group effort, chipping away at puzzles individually, sharing ideas over text, and pushing through late nights (and even dreaming about the puzzles).

“It was a lot of hard thinking, but also a lot of fun… and every Smooth Noodle contributed in a big way.”

While only one team claimed the diamond, Booneanza brought together hundreds of puzzlers from across Boone County (and beyond), raising $12,900 (and counting) in support of the Boone County History & Culture Center.

Thank you to everyone who joined the hunt and made this such a fun (and slightly chaotic in the best way) adventure.

And a big thank you to Buchroeders Jewelers for providing the diamond everyone was searching for 💎

The adventure isn’t over… You can still jump in! Registration is now $20 (originally $100) for a no-treasure treasure hunt, with puzzles remaining active for at least two more weeks (and possibly longer). Visit www.Booneanza.org to learn more and jump in on the adventure!

What an incredible night celebrating The Love of Locals: Opening Reception

We welcomed a record-breaking 317 guests for the opening reception with , David Spear, and Lisa Braman Bartlett, and the energy in the gallery was truly something special.

Even more exciting, we sold a whopping 18 pieces of local artwork, directly supporting the talented artists who make our community so vibrant.

We are deeply grateful to our sponsors, the artists who performed and shared their work, and everyone who came out to celebrate creativity, connection, and local talent. This is what community looks like.

If you missed the opening, there’s still time to experience it. The exhibit remains on view through May 30. We hope you’ll stop by and see it for yourself.
