Objects carry their own quiet history. Look closely at the world around you and notice the stories hiding in the things we overlook. For this show, we encourage you to transform the ordinary into something extraordinary, drawing inspiration from objects discovered, collected, or rescued from everyday life. How do these items connect us to memory and place, and imagination?

Tomorrow is the last day to see Kay Foley's exhibition in the South Gallery at CAL!

Kay set out to make joy visible with this show. She celebrates the small things that vibrate and hum in nature and those simple bits of grace that delight and strengthen us. These collages are made from gel prints that are cut up and pieced together without a substrate, to suggest humble, quietly merry stories.

These vibrant artworks are best appreciated in person, but you can also view and shop each piece online for a limited time.

We are looking for a few more volunteer artists to participate in our upcoming annual CAL Pet Portraits fundraiser, where patrons donate $35 to CAL and, in return, receive a 5" x 7" portrait of their selected pet by one of our local artists.

The money raised supports CAL and a local animal rescue organization. This year's charity will be Columbia Second Chance!

If you'd like to participate, here is how it works:

Artists choose how many portraits they would like to create. Pets are assigned to artists randomly and their pictures are emailed to the artists. Artists may use whatever 2-dimensional media they prefer. Each artwork must be 5" x 7" finished (so that they can fit into our envelopes to mail). If you normally work in oil, please consider another medium that you like and that is quicker to work with.

TIMELINE:

-Let us know how many pet portraits you're willing to do by September 7th, 2026.

-Pet portraits will be available for sale to patrons on our website on September 8th, 2026

-Deadline to purchase pet portrait(s): October 1st, 2026

-You will receive the pictures of your assigned pets by the end of October 7th, 2026.

-Artists must finish and return portraits to CAL by November 10th, 2026

-Portraits will be available for pickup at CAL beginning November 14th, 2026 and mailed out by November 14th, 2026.

If you would like to participate, please email [email protected] to let us know how many portraits you can do!
