🌟 Fun Fact for Columbia Main Street this Columbus Day! 🌟

Did you know that the statues atop the Schepis Museum are of Christopher Columbus and George Washington? These iconic figures were chosen by Joseph Schepis, the museum's founder, to honor both the country of his birth and the country he adopted as his own.

Columbus, representing exploration and discovery, and Washington, symbolizing leadership and independence, stand proudly as a testament to Joseph's deep respect for both his heritage and the land that gave him a new home. 🇺🇸🇮🇹

Next time you're walking around Columbia, take a moment to appreciate the history behind these statues and what they represent. Happy Columbus Day! 👑

Schepis Renovations Moving Along!

All summer long; the Schepis Museum has been buzzing with activity as crews worked to make important repairs and improvements to our beloved historic building. Thanks to the generous support of Citizens Progressive Bank, these renovations have been possible, ensuring that the jewel of Main Street—standing proudly since 1916—remains a source of pride for Columbia and Caldwell Parish.

What started as necessary maintenance has grown into a thoughtful renewal of the museum. Crews have completed structural repairs to strengthen the integrity of the building and updated walls that will create fresh opportunities for rotating exhibits and traveling shows. Visitors will also notice the new floors, which bring a brighter, cleaner feel to the main gallery, making the space more welcoming than ever before. One of the most exciting improvements is the installation of a professional art display system, which will allow us to display artwork in new and dynamic ways while protecting and preserving the pieces we display.

These upgrades not only ensure the long-term preservation of the Schepis but also make it an even better space to enjoy art, cultural, and community events. We’re excited about the opportunities these enhancements will create—for local artists, for regional collaborations, and for visitors.

While we’re eager to welcome you back, we are taking this time to do the work right and preserve the museum’s historic character for generations to come. We can’t wait to open our doors soon and share the improvements, new exhibits, and special events with our community!
