With this recent work I continue an exploration of the topology of the human head and its facial gestures, exaggerating and stylizing where appropriate. I have expanded the metaphorical narrative by including natural and technological iconography to display our inner mental landscape. I work each piece three times: initially I find in clay the human form and features of expression; then I treat th

e surface with a finish, utilizing glazes, stains and waxes to apply texture and coloration; finally I select a complimentary body element to unify the piece. The date etched on the wall side of the head reflects only the state of the clay at the time it is in the leather hard state and not necessarily when the firing took place or when the final emergent issued.
