Wyverns Trove

Wyverns Trove We have many kinds of collections; available for viewing by appointment during CoViD-19.

Wyverns Trove is a museum in Columbus Wisconsin, less than one hour from Madison off 151, focused on the history of collecting from the Victorian age to the present.

This one is a little wall hanging quilt. It is easy to be fanciful when working with small scale projects.

This is called a windowpane quilt, with large rectangles of different colors (in this case, triangles) framed in black. This one has six "windows", of which two are shown here.

We have the gift shop expansion open now and, with the window coatings done, we were able to add several more display shelves over the winter. Several of them have been filled with art books and another with the beginnings of a "military corner" to accompany the recently repaired 9-11 quilt that will soon be on display (this September marking 20 years since that tragedy). The quilt was originally completed for a ten-year memorial event at my former work place.

Weather has become very mild and the museum is open several days a week. We also have scrapbooking, quilting, and writing workshops scheduled (very limited class size while CoViD continues) starting later this month. We picked up a Harry Potter cookbook and some of the recipes are well-researched and modestly documented. Others not so much to downright bizarre interpretations of the fictitious dishes so I'm working on my own recipes for pumpkin pasties and pumpkin juice. (The book's recipe was more like pumpkin-infused tropical fruit juice, whereas there are relatively easy ways to get quite pleasant, real pumpkin juice while you cook pumpkin prior to making the pie or pasties.)

This is one of the quilts in the museum, not for sale. It's a simple design in mostly polyester fabrics and is valuable mostly for its sentimental value as it was made from the "dusters"/"smocks" that one of grandmothers always wore. Many, especially older quilts, have accumulated stories and histories in their long lives and stay in their families despite the need for many repairs, because of the stories and associated memories they carry rather than for the value the quilt might hold for strangers. Still, some collectors like older, beaten up quilts because they tell their own story...

Hope everyone had a pleasant Valentine's Day! The cold weather is at least not as bad as the winter wet down south further! We are getting ready to host craft classes at the museum, with due spacing and firm limits on how many can attend, due to continuing CoViD precautions. We hope those of you in the local area are ready to brave the cold and come join us for one or more of the classes: creative writing, scrapbooking, and/or quilting.

Here's a bit of the collection to enjoy until you can come visit the museum for yourself.

We're still planning to be open more regularly in February but have been reminded that it will be highly weather dependent! If the recent pattern holds of twice as much snow as predicted, this one could be a doozy although it's currently a wet sloppy mix. The more wet, the less tall the snow is likely to be, although not better for driving...Safety First! Stay home if you can until the roads are clear!
