Do you want to help with my GIS project? In August 1884, the commissioners approved new school districts after Spokane County (including Lincoln, Douglas, and Grant) was reformed and removed from Stevens County. Pend Oreille didn't get a school district, probably until around 1887, with School District No. 15 Calispel. Ferry County won't get school districts until 1897. Okanogan County did have school districts, but I'm having issues figuring out where the schools were.
"Stevens County Commissioners’ Minutes Book A, Page 445 & 446, 8/8/1884 No. 1 – All that portion of School District number one commencing at the south line of Lake Creek, thence running down the Columbia River to the mouth of Spokane River, on the west side of the mountains, No. 8.
No. 2 – Commencing at the S. E. Corner of Sect 16, thence following the section line, between Sections 15-22-14 and 23 running in an easterly direction, thence following the east line of section 14 and 11, in a northerly direction, thence running to the N. E. corner of Section 10, thence following the east line of section 3 in Township 35, thence following the east line of township 36 to the little Dalles. The withins lines consolidates School District No. 2 and 3 and will be known as School District No. 2. Stevens County
No. 3 All that portion of County lying south and east of South District No. 2 (and known as the White Mud Lake Country) and that portion of country lying east of School District No. 9 shall be known as School District No. 3.
No. 5 From the Little Pend Oreille to a point midway between Little Michael’s and Peter King.
No. 6. From the southerly line of No. 5 to and including Inkster’s place on the east side of the Columbia River and to and including the place of Francis Hubert’s run on the west side of said River, No. 6. Franswa Hubert's property was southwest of Chewelah near current Heine Road and Farm to Market Road. Suspect they meant the Colville River and not the Columbia River.
From the southerly line of No. 6 to a point midway between H. E. Young and Guy Haines, No. 7
No. 9 Commencing at the SW corner of Section 17, thence east to NW corner Section 16, thence South to SW corner of Section 16, thence East to the Section line of District No. 3. Shall be known as School District No. 9.
From the southerly line of No. 7 to Spokane River, No. 10.
Stevens County Commissioners’ Minutes Book A, Page 445 & 446, 8/8/1884, and all that portion of country known as Okanogan District as No. 11.
In 1890, after Okanogan County was formed, the school districts were renumbered, so this is only for six years.
