onroe Art League Celebrates 90th Birthday and February Feature Artist Joyce Beckwith
Conroe, TX â The Conroe Art League is proud to honor acclaimed local artist Joyce Beckwith as its February Feature Artist while celebrating her remarkable 90th birthday with a special reception on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. The celebration will be held at The Madeley Fine Art Gallery, located at 127 Simonton Street in Historic Downtown Conroe. Joyceâs artwork will be on display throughout the month of February.
A Conroe native, Beckwith has built a distinguished artistic career spanning more than three decades. She studied art at Sam Houston State University and the University of Texas, and credits her early artistic influence to renowned Texas artist David Adickes. A recent reunion with Adickes at an artist reception served as a meaningful full-circle moment in her lifelong artistic journey.
While balancing her roles as wife and mother alongside professional work with the Houston Symphony Society and the Houston Grand Opera, Beckwith temporarily set aside her studio practice. In recent years, she has returned to her art with renewed focus and energy.
Inspired by the beauty of nature, Beckwith describes her work as a way to âexpress my love of nature, with a flair for color, composition, and design.â Her paintingsâcreated in oils, acrylics, pastels, and watercolorâexplore subjects ranging from soft, understated plant forms to bold, vibrant florals. She has recently expanded her portfolio to include collage and mixed media.
A devoted member of the Conroe Art League for nearly four decades, Beckwith has received numerous awards for her work, including the 2017 Lone Star Art Guild Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2018, the Conroe Art League honored her 30th anniversary as one of its longest-serving members with a special exhibition highlighting her evolving body of work.
The Conroe Art League invites the public to join in celebrating Joyce Beckwithâs artistic legacy, her contributions to the local arts community, and her milestone birthday. Admission is free, and all are welcome.
